Summary
Provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees by enforcing hospital security regulations and continuously monitoring assigned areas for potential safety hazards and unusual occurrences. Investigates complaints and potential criminal conduct, provides protective services, and assists with patient restraint when necessary. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and maintains a professional, approachable presence throughout the hospital. When applicable, responsible for the arrest of criminal suspects under the authority of a State Special Police license.

Essential Functions
Patrols assigned areas, giving particular attention to locations where security concerns or incidents have previously occurred.
Identifies unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas or property to help prevent theft, injuries, and damage to hospital property and to protect patients, visitors, and employees.
Maintains strict confidentiality and safeguards sensitive information at all times.
Investigates thefts, shortages, and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct by interviewing individuals involved in specific incidents. Notifies appropriate law enforcement agencies of potential or actual civil or criminal misconduct and detains suspicious individuals as appropriate. When authorized, makes arrests and participates in subsequent court proceedings as required.
Prepares and submits complete and accurate written reports and maintains detailed incident log entries. Keeps the Security Supervisor informed of significant incidents and developments.
Maintains accountability for valuables, property, and evidence placed in custody; ensures proper safekeeping and maintains all required documentation.
Performs dispatcher duties utilizing integrated security systems. Dispatches personnel by radio to respond to incidents and requests for assistance and maintains appropriate documentation.
Assists with workplace violence and domestic violence incidents; responds to medical emergencies; assists with patient restraints when authorized; provides protection for dignitaries; and controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic as needed.
