Working remotely from anywhere in the United States, you will influence technology decisions, establish secure architecture standards, and guide teams toward practical, risk-informed solutions.
This opportunity is ideal for a security professional who has progressed from hands-on engineering into architecture and enjoys balancing technical depth with strategic influence. You will partner with engineering teams and senior leaders to ensure security is embedded into technology decisions early, enabling innovation while managing risk. The role also offers a potential path to Security Architecture Team Lead based on organizational needs and demonstrated leadership.
Key Responsibilities

- Define security requirements, identify material risks, and recommend practical controls and remediation strategies that support business objectives.
- Provide expert guidance on Microsoft Azure architecture and security, including identity, networking, governance, monitoring, private connectivity, and cloud protection services.
- Evaluate cloud security posture and risk findings using cloud-native or CNAPP/CSPM platforms and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Partner with cloud, infrastructure, identity, application, and DevSecOps teams to promote secure design and implementation practices.
- Review emerging AI and generative AI solutions to assess security, privacy, access management, monitoring, and governance considerations.
- Develop and maintain enterprise security standards, reference architectures, design patterns, and guardrails that support scalable growth.
- Present recommendations, risk assessments, and architectural guidance to both technical teams and senior leadership.
Required Education & Experience
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in cybersecurity, technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on security engineering experience.
- Minimum 5 years of security architecture, solution architecture, or comparable architecture-focused experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading security architecture reviews and translating complex technical designs into clear security requirements and risk decisions.
- Deep experience securing Microsoft Azure environments, including cloud governance, identity, networking, monitoring, and workload protection.
- Experience with cloud security posture management, cloud infrastructure security, or CNAPP platforms.
- College degree not required. Relevant experience, technical expertise, professional judgment, and demonstrated capabilities are valued most.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft Azure security architecture and cloud security best practices.
- Strong understanding of networking, identity and access management, operating systems, applications, APIs, data security, and cloud platforms.
- Ability to assess complex technology solutions, identify risks, and recommend balanced security outcomes.
- Strong consultative skills with the ability to influence technical teams without direct authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical risk for executive audiences.
- Practical, collaborative approach to security that balances protection, usability, cost, operational effectiveness, and business objectives.
- Demonstrated integrity, accountability, curiosity, sound judgment, and a willingness to challenge assumptions constructively.
Additional Strengths
- Active CISSP certification.
- Additional certifications such as CCSP, CISM, Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert (SC-100), Microsoft Certified: Cloud and AI Security Engineer Associate (SC-500), or Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305).
- Experience with Wiz, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Prisma Cloud, Orca Security, or similar cloud security platforms.
- Knowledge of Azure AI security, Microsoft Foundry, Azure Policy, Private Link, Key Vault, AKS, Zero Trust, and modern identity architectures.
- Experience reviewing infrastructure-as-code, automation, and CI/CD security controls.
- Exposure to AWS and Google Cloud security practices in addition to deep Azure expertise.
