Job Description

Location/Division Specific Information

Olink, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, is dedicated to advancing the understanding of human disease through proteomics. Olink provides innovative, high-quality solutions for protein biomarker discovery and translational research based on Proximity Extension Assay (PEA) technology.

Within R&D, Affinity Innovation & Development develops and advances the content, affinity reagents, PEA assay library, and scientific capabilities supporting Olink's Discovery and Translational product portfolios.

Discover Impactful Work

We are looking to hire a Section Manager within Affinity Innovation & Development, R&D at Olink.

In this role, you will lead a team of scientists and engineers working with antibody, antigen and PEA assay characterization with a focus on challenging targets, including the use of analytical and biophysical methods for protein analysis. You will combine people leadership, technical understanding, and operational execution to deliver on current R&D priorities and develop capabilities for future products.

You will work closely with technical experts, Design Owners, other R&D groups, and cross-functional partners. The role contributes to key strategic priorities including expansion and improvement of the PEA assay library, addressing assay performance and characterization gaps, and enabling the journey from Discovery to Translational applications.

The position is based in Uppsala and reports to the Director, Affinity Innovation & Development.

A Day in the Life

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of R&D scientists and engineers, promoting collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Plan, prioritize, and follow up the section's R&D activities, translating Affinity and portfolio priorities into clear deliverables and ensuring effective use of resources.
  • Apply your understanding of antibody and protein characterization, analytical and biophysical methods, and PEA assay performance to guide the team's work and identify technical and capability gaps.
  • Drive progress toward strategic R&D priorities, including expansion and improvement of the PEA library, resolution of assay performance gaps, and capabilities supporting Discovery and Translational product development.
  • Collaborate with technical experts, Design Owners, other Affinity sections, and cross-functional partners to ensure effective technical decisions, handovers, and resolution of dependencies.
  • Develop and improve capabilities, methods, and ways of working that increase scientific quality, development speed, scalability, and predictability.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Advanced Degree plus 6 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years of experience, including 2+ years in people management/leadership roles
  • Previous leadership experience within R&D or a comparable scientific development environment, with demonstrated ability to lead and develop scientists.
  • Strong theoretical understanding and relevant experience in protein and antibody characterization using analytical and biophysical methods, together with immunoassay development and characterization.
  • Proven ability to plan and prioritize R&D activities, manage resources and deliverables, and translate scientific objectives into executable plans.
  • Strong scientific problem-solving and decision-making skills, combined with the ability to guide and develop technical specialists.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills. Experience in PEA, proteomics, affinity-reagent development, or biomarker assay development is an advantage.

If you have a strong theoretical understanding of affinity proteomics, protein characterization, immunoassay development, and data analysis, and is motivated by guiding the team's work, support scientific discussions and decisions, and develop the competence of the team, we encourage you to apply for this role!

Why Join Us?

At Olink, Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will be part of a collaborative R&D organization working at the intersection of affinity reagents, protein characterization, assay development, and proteomics.

You will have the opportunity to lead and develop a highly skilled scientific team while contributing to the assay content and capabilities enabling the next generation of Discovery and Translational PEA products.

The last day of applications is on the 10th of November. We are looking forward to receiving your application!
