The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and service-oriented individual to join our team as Seasonal Festival of Lights Steward for the Annual Festival of Lights celebration.
This seasonal position plays an important role in helping create a memorable and welcoming experience for our guests and visitors throughout the holiday season. The ideal candidate will take pride in their work, demonstrate professionalism, work well with others, and be prepared to contribute to the successful operation of this special annual event.

The Steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all kitchenware, utensils, equipment, and kitchen areas at The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa. This position supports the culinary team by ensuring clean and sanitized items are consistently available for food preparation and service.
The Steward works as an important member of the Food & Beverage team and is expected to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment while providing dependable support to culinary operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glassware, silverware, pots, pans, cooking utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Operate commercial dishwashing and sanitation equipment safely and according to established procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of dishwashing areas, kitchen floors, sinks, drains, work areas, and other assigned areas.
- Assist culinary staff with maintaining an adequate supply of clean dishes, utensils, cookware, and equipment throughout service.
- Sort and properly dispose of trash, recyclables, food waste, and other refuse in accordance with hotel procedures.
- Maintain proper organization of storage areas and return equipment and supplies to their designated locations.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and surfaces as assigned.
- Assist with receiving, moving, and storing food, beverage, kitchen, and operating supplies when needed.
- Follow all hotel, department, health, sanitation, and safety policies and procedures.
- Properly handle cleaning chemicals and use required personal protective equipment.
- Report damaged equipment, safety hazards, maintenance concerns, or sanitation issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with maintaining adequate supplies of dishwashing chemicals, cleaning supplies, and other stewarding materials.
- Help maintain a professional, organized, and sanitary back-of-house environment.
- Perform additional cleaning and support duties as assigned by the supervisor or management.
Guest Service Responsibilities
Although this position primarily works behind the scenes, the Steward contributes directly to the guest experience by supporting the culinary and Food & Beverage teams. Employees are expected to:
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with guests and coworkers.
- Respond promptly and respectfully to requests from culinary and Food & Beverage staff.
- Protect the quality and presentation standards associated with The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while working in guest and service areas.
Safety and Sanitation
- Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and hotel policies.
- Use cleaning chemicals and equipment according to manufacturer and hotel guidelines.
- Maintain proper personal hygiene and wear required uniforms and protective equipment.
- Practice safe lifting, carrying, bending, and handling techniques.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, injuries, spills, broken equipment, or other hazards to management.
- Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition to reduce the risk of accidents.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, hotel, or stewarding environment is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work cooperatively with culinary and Food & Beverage team members.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Willingness to perform repetitive cleaning and sanitation tasks.
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization while working under time constraints.
