Job Description Summary

A U.S. Navy IAMD Instructor provides advanced instruction, mentorship, and performance evaluation for Navy officers and watch teams responsible for integrated air and missile defense operations. The instructor leverages extensive operational experience to develop tactical proficiency, decision-making skills, situational awareness, and effective command-and-control practices in high-fidelity laboratory and simulator environments.

The position involves designing and executing complex, scenario-based training; evaluating individual and watch-team performance; providing real-time coaching and post-exercise debriefs; and ensuring personnel are prepared to effectively manage time-critical tactical situations and employ integrated combat-system capabilities in support of fleet and national defense missions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute high-fidelity laboratory and simulator exercises designed to replicate complex ballistic missiles and integrated air-defense environments.
  • Provide real-time mentorship and coaching during tactical exercises while allowing students to develop independent decision-making and leadership skills.
  • Evaluate student and watch-team performance against established tactical, operational, and qualification standards.
  • Assess the ability of watch teams to maintain situational awareness and develop an accurate tactical picture using available sensor, combat-system, communications, and tactical-data information.
  • Train personnel to recognize, evaluate, prioritize, and respond to developing ballistic missile and air threats within established operational procedures.
  • Develop complex scenarios incorporating multiple tactical tracks, changing threat conditions, communications challenges, competing priorities, and time-sensitive decision-making.
  • Evaluate command-and-control processes, watch-team coordination, communication, information management, and tactical execution.
  • Conduct detailed post-exercise debriefs and after-action reviews to identify strengths, deficiencies, lessons learned, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide individualized remediation and develop targeted training plans for personnel requiring additional instruction.
  • Coordinate with instructors, training personnel, watch teams, and command leadership to identify individual and organizational training requirements.
  • Incorporate fleet operational experience, lessons learned, system updates, and current tactical practices into training scenarios and curriculum.
  • Ensure training events are conducted safely and in accordance with applicable Navy policies, procedures, and information-security requirements.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced operational knowledge of Navy Integrated Air and Missile Defense operations.
  • Knowledge of radar, sensors, combat systems, communications networks, tactical data systems, and their integration into BMD operations.
  • Strong understanding of tactical planning, threat evaluation, track management, engagement coordination, and watchstanding principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct, coach, and mentor experienced warfare watch teams.
  • Exceptional verbal communication, briefing, and leadership skills.
  • Strong critical-thinking, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to objectively evaluate tactical performance and provide actionable feedback.
  • Ability to manage and facilitate high-tempo, scenario-driven training events.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to remain composed and effective while managing complex and rapidly changing tactical situations.
  • Working knowledge of Navy doctrine, operational procedures, qualification standards, training requirements, safety practices, and information-security policies.
  • Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC): 805A
  • Navy Additional Qualification Designator (AQD): KW2
