Cerity Partners' Norfolk wealth management practice oversees approximately $4 billion in client assets, and we're looking for a Chief Investment Officer & Equity Manager to lead the investment function that sits at the heart of it. This is a highly visible, senior leadership role for an experienced equity portfolio manager who wants to run their own quantitative model, build and mentor a talented investment team, and be the trusted voice on strategy for advisors, colleagues, and clients across the practice.

Why This Role

  • Lead investment strategy for a $4 billion practice, with direct ownership of a quantitative equity model and the team that runs it.

  • Serve as the primary link between the Norfolk practice and the firm's Investment Committee, with a seat at the table on firmwide strategy.

  • Build meaningful, direct relationships with senior investment professionals, advisors, colleagues, and clients — shaping how investment strategy is understood and acted on across the practice.

As Chief Investment Officer & Equity Manager, you'll direct the investment management function for the Norfolk practice's approximately $4 billion in assets under management. You'll lead the practice's investment team, maintain active management of a quantitative equity model with a fundamental overlay, and oversee its implementation across several thousand client accounts — including custom adjustments and tax-sensitive considerations. You'll also serve as the primary point of coordination between the Norfolk practice and the firm's Investment Committee, and communicate investment strategy and portfolio positioning across a broad range of constituents, including senior investment professionals within the firm, the advisor community, colleagues within the practice, and clients.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct all investment management processes for the Norfolk practice's approximately $4 billion in assets under management.

  • Manage, develop, and mentor the practice's investment team.

  • Coordinate and align the practice's investment strategies with the firm's Investment Committee.

  • Maintain active management and ongoing refinement of a quantitative equity model with a fundamental overlay.

  • Direct implementation of the equity model across several thousand client accounts.

  • Evaluate and apply custom adjustments to model implementation to address client-specific circumstances and objectives.

  • Apply tax-sensitive judgment to model implementation, including consideration of cost basis, tax-loss harvesting, and account-specific constraints.

  • Communicate investment strategy, positioning, and performance to senior investment professionals within the firm.

  • Partner with the advisor community across the firm to translate investment strategy into client-facing guidance.

  • Present investment updates, strategy, and portfolio positioning to colleagues within the practice.

  • Engage directly with clients to communicate investment strategy, performance, and portfolio changes.

  • Monitor markets, model performance, and portfolio risk on an ongoing basis.

  • Assist with various other projects as needed.

  • Follow firm policies and procedures, including all compliance policies as outlined by the company.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of seven years of experience managing equity portfolios, with experience running quantitative equity models with a fundamental overlay.

  • Experience implementing investment strategies across a large book of client accounts, with the ability to apply custom, client-specific adjustments.

  • A strong understanding of tax-sensitive portfolio management, including cost basis and tax-loss harvesting considerations.

  • Experience managing or mentoring an investment team.

  • A demonstrated ability to coordinate investment strategy with an investment committee or similar governing body.

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field; CFA designation required. Advanced degree preferred.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills across varied constituents, including senior investment professionals, advisors, colleagues, and clients.

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Meets the attributes and expectations of a Principal or Senior Principal as defined in the CP Colleague Titles & Expectations framework.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Compensation Range:

  • $150,000 - $200,000
