Saw Doctor/Maintenance Tech/Toolmaker with experience in saw milling industry

Key Responsibilities

Saw Doctoring & Tooling Maintenance

· Bandsaw Maintenance: Service and repair bandsaws (stellite tipped and swaged). Execute precision tipping, grinding, and crack repairing/welding as required.

· Circular Saw Servicing: Sharpen, level, tension, and re-tip TCT and Stellite circular saw blades used on high-speed board edgers, Band saws, and arbour sawmill saws.

· Saw Shop Machinery: Operate specialized CNC and manual saw-grinding machines, sharpeners, and automatic tip-welding units.

· Alignment & Machine Setup: Perform precise alignment of saw guides, arbors, wheels, and setworks components to ensure maximum cutting accuracy.

Mechanical Maintenance Support

· Mechanical : Replace guide blocks, lubrication lines during line overhauls or breakdowns and daily production as required.

· Quality & Safety Compliance: Monitor timber cut quality, dimensional accuracy, and kerf consistency, adhering strictly to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and saw safety standards.

· Trade / Qualification: Craft certification or time-served Apprenticeship as a Saw Doctor, Saw Fitter, Tool Maker or Mechanical Fitter.

· Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of direct hands-on experience as a Saw Doctor in a commercial sawmill or high-capacity timber processing plant.

· Technical Competencies:

o Demonstrated skill in sharpening, tensioning, and levelling bandsaws and large circular saws.

o Hands-on experience with stellite tipping, TCT sharpening, and automated CNC saw-sharpening equipment (e.g., Vollmer, Iseli, ABM).

o Fundamental mechanical understanding of saw arbor alignment, bearing fitments, and pneumatic guide systems.
