Job Description:
Position Summary & Purpose
The Salesforce Platform Engineer is a senior technical role responsible for the security, integrations, compliance, data management, and DevOps operations of the Salesforce platform across the enterprise. Reporting to the SVP of Business Applications, this individual ensures Salesforce remains scalable, secure, resilient, and compliant, while supporting integrations with key business systems such as EHR applications and Okta.
The ideal candidate is highly technical, self-sufficient, and capable of reviewing, optimizing, and stabilizing an existing Salesforce environment. They will document, organize, and automate platform operations to make the business self-sufficient. This role is focused on Sales Cloud optimization, environment governance, and DevOps structure rather than architectural redesign.
Project Overview
- Current Salesforce footprint includes ~36 Flows, 3–4 APIs, and minimal Apex code.
- Environment is functional but not well organized; internal technical ownership is currently limited.
- Immediate priorities include workflow optimization, data and access management, and structured DevOps implementation.
- Focus is on improving Sales Cloud, including leads, opportunities, and custom object configurations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own Salesforce security model, compliance controls, and governance across environments, ensuring alignment with HIPAA, HITECH, and enterprise standards.
- Design, implement, and maintain integrations between Salesforce and external systems (EHR, ERP, data warehouse, marketing).
- Configure and manage Okta SSO and user provisioning for Salesforce.
- Manage and optimize Salesforce DevOps pipelines (Copado or equivalent) to enable CI/CD and enforce version control.
- Develop and maintain data backup, recovery, and archiving processes to ensure business continuity.
- Oversee release management, including sandbox refreshes, testing, and production deployments.
- Evaluate and maintain third-party integration and ETL tools (Fivetran, MuleSoft, Informatica).
- Monitor and manage API usage, performance, and error handling.
- Partner with IT Security on least-privilege access controls and audit monitoring.
- Provide Tier 3 support for complex Salesforce platform issues.
- Maintain thorough technical documentation for integrations, security, and DevOps workflows.
- Stay current with Salesforce releases, new features, and best practices in DevOps, platform security, and compliance.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of Salesforce administration, engineering, or platform management experience.
- Hands-on expertise in Apex, Flows, APIs, ETL, and security (access, roles, SSO).
- Experience with DevOps tools (Copado, Gearset, Jenkins) and CI/CD deployment practices.
- Strong understanding of Salesforce security and compliance, including HIPAA/HITECH, encryption, and audit logging.
- Background in APIs and integrations (REST, SOAP, event-driven).
- Proficiency with ETL/data integration tools such as Fivetran, MuleSoft, or Informatica.
- Experience managing Okta SSO and identity integrations.
- Familiarity with data migrations, bulk operations, and data synchronization between systems.
- Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity best practices.
- Scripting or automation skills (Python, PowerShell, or Apex).
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Salesforce Certifications: Administrator, Platform App Builder, Platform Developer I/II, Sharing & Visibility Architect, or Security & Identity Architect.
- Experience integrating Salesforce with EHR or healthcare-related systems.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (HIPAA, SOC 2, ISO 27001).
