Maine Oxyhas an immediate openingfora Safety Manager, $70-110,000 pay range!  

We are looking for a hands-on Safety Manager to lead our company-wide safety program.  You will report directly to our Partner and Chief Operations and Safety Officer and present to our Board of Directors each month.  This is a role with real visibility and real impact; Maine Oxy is part of a group captive insurance program, so the injuries and accidents you help prevent show up directly in our results.

You will not inherit a blank page.  We have Nurse Triage for injury reporting, a new Safety Rewards Program, and fresh employee feedback from our Safety Perception Survey.  We're looking for a leader to bring it all together, raise the bar, and continue to integrate safety into how we grow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Lead the safety program for plants, retail stores, and our delivery fleet across multiple states.

  • Partner with our captive insurance group, broker, and claims administrator; meet loss control standards and use loss data to target the biggest risks.

  • Manage workers' compensation claims from first report to closure, including return-to-work and transitional duty.

  • Drive fleet and DOT compliance with our distribution team, including hazmat training, driver qualification, and accident review.

  • Train employees on cylinder handling, forklift, propane, hazard communication, PPE, lockout/tagout, and more.

  • Inspect and audit our locations, lead incident investigations, and make sure corrective actions get done.

  • Keep OSHA logs and reporting accurate and on time, and serve as our point of contact for agency inspections.

  • Run our Safety Committee and Safety Rewards Program and help onboard new locations as we expand.

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; on call for serious incidents, vehicle accidents, and releases

Travel - Up to 50% across New England, Florida, and the Southeast

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of safety experience in manufacturing, distribution, transportation, or another industrial setting, including 2+ years leading a program
  • Solid working knowledge of OSHA general industry standards and recordkeeping
  • Experience managing workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs
  • OSHA 30 (or ability to complete within 6 months)
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record
  • Confidence on the plant floor, in the truck yard, and in the boardroom

  • ASP, CSP, or OHST certification, or a bachelor's degree in safety or a related field
  • DOT/FMCSA, hazmat, or fleet safety experience
  • Industrial gas, welding supply, propane, or chemical distribution background
  • Experience with a group captive or self-insured program
