Safety Director β Commercial Concrete & Masonry
Location: Washington, DC Metro Area
Our client is a well-established commercial construction contractor seeking an experiencedSafety Director to oversee and lead the company's safety program across commercial concrete and masonry projects throughout the DC Metro area.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background incommercial concrete, masonry, and construction safety, with hands-on knowledge of the unique hazards associated with concrete placement, structural work, masonry installation, excavation, scaffolding, elevated work, and heavy equipment operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive company-wide safety policies and procedures.
- Oversee safety operations across multiple active commercial concrete and masonry construction projects.
- Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
- Work closely with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field personnel to promote a strong safety culture.
- Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to maintain safe working environments.
- Lead incident investigations and develop corrective and preventative action plans.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, federal/state/local requirements, and company safety standards.
- Conduct and coordinate safety training, toolbox talks, orientations, and educational programs.
- Monitor subcontractor safety performance and ensure compliance with project and company requirements.
- Maintain safety documentation, OSHA records, incident reports, inspections, and compliance documentation.
- Assist project teams with site-specific safety plans, JHAs/JSA's, fall protection, scaffolding, excavation, and other required safety programs.
- Stay current on OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
- Work with leadership to continuously improve the company's overall safety program.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of construction safety experience, preferably withincommercial concrete, masonry, or related heavy commercial construction.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
- Hands-on experience working on active commercial construction sites.
- Experience with concrete and masonry operations, including elevated work, scaffolding, formwork, rebar, material handling, and heavy equipment.
- Strong understanding of fall protection, excavation/trenching, confined spaces, silica exposure, rigging, and other construction safety requirements.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively with field personnel, project management, subcontractors, and company leadership.
- OSHA 30 certification required; additional safety certifications such as CHST, CSP, or equivalent are a plus.
- Ability to travel between active projects throughout the DC Metro area.
