Position Summary:
The Safety Assistant supports the daily health and safety activities of the Frankfort facility and reports directly to the Plant Health & Safety Manager. This position combines regular engagement with colleagues in the plant with coordination of safety training, records, inspections, and corrective actions.
Working under the direction of the Plant Health & Safety Manager, the Safety Assistant takes ownership of assigned activities, follows through on commitments, and helps identify opportunities to improve workplace safety. Success requires strong organization, effective communication, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn in a changing industrial environment.
This role provides opportunities to build technical safety knowledge and leadership skills through hands-on experience, coaching, and progressively increased responsibility.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a regular presence in the plant, build productive relationships with colleagues and leaders, and encourage open communication about hazards, concerns, and improvement opportunities.
  • Complete assigned health and safety standard work, organize recurring activities, and communicate progress, barriers, and priorities to the Plant Health & Safety Manager.
  • Conduct and support safety inspections, plant walkdowns, layered audits, and observations. Document findings, communicate concerns, and follow up on assigned actions.
  • Support the facility’s Safety Action Plan by maintaining action tracking, coordinating updates with responsible leaders, and bringing overdue items or barriers to the Plant Health & Safety Manager’s attention.
  • Coordinate and deliver assigned safety orientations, training, toolbox talks, and other safety communications. Maintain training records and help identify upcoming or outstanding training needs.
  • Maintain accurate and organized safety records, reports, and documentation in designated systems. Assist with data entry, reporting, and review of safety performance trends.
  • Support implementation of ADM health and safety programs by assisting with procedure reviews, field verification, documentation, and communication of requirements.
  • Assist with contractor safety activities, documentation reviews, field observations, and communication of site expectations.
  • Support incident and near-miss investigations through timely information gathering, documentation, participation in root cause analysis, and tracking of corrective actions under the direction of the Plant Health & Safety Manager.
  • Assist with injury-response coordination, required documentation, and follow-up as directed by the Plant Health & Safety Manager, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Help prepare for internal and external audits, inspections, and assessments by organizing records, supporting field reviews, and tracking follow-up activities.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, including drills, readiness checks, and related records.
  • Encourage colleague participation in safety committees, hazard reporting, learning discussions, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Recognize and promptly communicate hazards or situations requiring immediate attention. Seek guidance when an issue exceeds current training, knowledge, or authority.
  • Participate in training, mentoring, and professional development to build safety knowledge and assume additional responsibilities as proficiency develops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Leadership team.

Position Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, agricultural, safety, training, or coordination role is preferred. Candidates with strong transferable skills and a demonstrated ability to learn are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and follow through with limited day-to-day prompting.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to lead group discussions and deliver training.
  • Ability to build working relationships, provide constructive feedback, and work effectively with colleagues, contractors, and leaders.
  • Willingness to learn industrial processes, applicable health and safety requirements, hazard recognition, risk assessment, and appropriate controls.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn additional systems.
  • Sound judgment, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to recognize when guidance or escalation is needed.
  • Ability to adapt to changing plant needs and balance planned activities with emerging priorities.
Work Schedule and Environment:
  • The normal schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, with flexibility coordinated through the Plant Health & Safety Manager.
  • The facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Occasional work outside normal hours, including evenings, weekends, and participation in an assigned on-call rotation, may be required to support training, incidents, or other operational needs.
  • Work is performed in both office and plant settings, including indoor and outdoor areas with varying temperatures, noise, and weather conditions.
  • Duties include prolonged standing and walking, climbing stairs, and accessing designated plant work areas, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required.
  • Occasional travel is required and is expected to be minimal.
