Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant will play an integral role in general ledger accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, payroll accounting, and process improvement initiatives within FORTÉ’s Corporate Accounting department. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of managing competing priorities throughout the month to ensure deadlines are met. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of FORTÉ’s workforce.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
General Accounting
- Preparation and review of journal entries to support a timely and accurate month-end close.
- Preparation and review of balance sheet account reconciliations, including reviewing subledger detail and resolving reconciling items and other issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain and improve FORTÉ's quarterly incentive process including coordination with HR and Business Unit Management, calculation of incentives, preparation of journal entries, and preparation for incentive statements.
- Maintain and improve FORTÉ's ASC 842 lease accounting, including journal entries preparation, account reconciliations, and ongoing maintenance of lease accounting software.
- Assist with preparation of year-end audit schedules, income tax requests, and related support schedules.
- Ensure adequate internal controls exist in accounting processes and lead initiatives to document and improve those controls.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system issues to ensure data integrity.
Payroll
- Reconcile and post payroll runs to the general ledger.
- Evaluate and execute time bill move requests, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the company policy and recordkeeping requirements.
- Collaborate with the Payroll Manager and HR department to identify and implement process improvements.
Other
- Partner with leadership on accounting process improvements and strategic initiatives, including efficiency enhancements and automation within the accounting department.
- Assist and train other accountants when questions or issues arise.
- Learn, backup, and document other duties within the accounting department.
- Assist leadership in leading special projects as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum of three years of experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, or internal audit.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting monthly close and reporting deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including advanced working knowledge of Microsoft excel.
- Detail-oriented, collaborative team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
- Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed CPA or CPA eligible
- Master’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field
- Public accounting experience
- Project accounting experience
- Experience with ERP systems and/or Power BI
