Principal Electrical Engineer

Summary of the Role

The Electrical Engineer will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team within the Approval Authority, the primary purpose of the role is to directly support current operations and future programmes. Supporting nuclear facilities & the delivery of services across client sites.

The team consists of Mechanical, Civil, Building Services or Electrical Engineers and are responsible for the authorship, development, assessment, and maintenance of Engineering Design Substantiation for Clyde Nuclear Facilities, ensuring Design Intent, Critical Safety Factors and Safety and Operational Requirements are met and are consistent with current good practice and legislative/regulatory requirements

TASKS

🔹 Key Responsibilities

• 📝 Author, maintain and manageNuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation documentation.
• ⚙️ Assess and controlengineering design changes and concessions.
• 👨‍💼 Present technical substantiations toNuclear Safety Committees.
• 🔍 Develop and maintainEIMT schedules, procedures and testing requirements throughout the asset lifecycle.
• ☢️ Produce and reviewPeriodic Reviews of Safety (PRS) and safety case documentation.
• 🤝 Provide technical advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
• ✅ ConductIndependent Technical Assessments (ITA) andIndependent Peer Reviews (IPR).
• 💡 Apply engineering expertise to supportnuclear and high-hazard projects using existing and emerging technologies.
• 🏗️ Support the design, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of engineering systems in regulated environments.
• 📊 Produce robust technical justifications forelectrical design modifications and approvals.
• 📑 Review contractor technical reports, safety cases and engineering submissions.
• ✔️ Verify and approve engineering calculations and technical documentation produced by other engineers.

🎯 Essential Experience

• ⚡5+ years' experience in Electrical Design Engineering.
• 📝 Proven ability to producerobust technical justifications to support and authorise design modifications.
• 📚 Strong knowledge of relevantelectrical legislation, codes, standards and regulations.
• 🔍 Familiarity with recognisedindustry engineering guidance and best practices.
• 🤝 Experience working onmulti-disciplinary projects, providing electrical engineering expertise across diverse teams.

⭐ Desirable Experience

• 🎛️ Knowledge and experience in the design ofElectrical Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) systems.
• ☢️ Experience working within anuclear, defence, or other high-hazard/high-risk environment.
• 🏗️ Experience applying engineering principles across the full lifecycle, includingdesign, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, decommissioning and disposal.
• 🛡️ Understanding ofnuclear safety case development and safety assessment techniques.
• ⚠️ Familiarity with hazard identification and risk assessment methods, includingHAZID and HAZOP studies.
• 💡 Ability to apply boththeoretical and practical engineering solutions within regulated industries.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING 

Essential:

• HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or similar plus demonstrable experience in the discipline.

Desirable:

• BEng Electrical Engineering
• Membership of IET
• CEng
