Job Description Summary

The Military DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. Separating Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full-time with approved industry partners after unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) provides written authorization and approval. GE Aerospace as a SkillBridge partner offers real-world training and work experience in in-demand fields of work while having the opportunity to evaluate the Service member’s suitability for the work. Military DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from GE Aerospace, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.

Job Description

The Engineering Technician's primary duty is to meet production objectives by conducting special test processes of electronic devices. Responsibilities include administering functional tests along with troubleshooting at a system level down to the component level and maintaining records of the mentioned special test processes. Executes within a well-defined operations framework. There is generally a step-by-step sequence of standard operational tasks which need to be followed to achieve an end result.

Ideal for transitioning military talent with electronics test, diagnostics, avionics, or communications maintenance experience who are comfortable following technical procedures, using sophisticated test equipment, troubleshooting to the component level, and documenting results in quality systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform special test following test specifications and procedures for high volumemanufacturing
  • Set up and perform test with minimal direction using sophisticated equipment - performanalysesand diagnostics of process, products, computers, and test equipment used in systemsverification
  • Troubleshoot electronics systems, circuit card assemblies to component level with analog,digital,and microprocessor-based circuits, assemblies, and test equipment
  • Capability in the assembly/dis-assembly of test equipment andproduct
  • Prescribe rework instructions for products needingrepair
  • Maintain product test records in quality data trackingsystem
  • Ensure product compliance andquality
  • Attend and participate in teammeetings

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active Military personnel on their last 180 days of Military service
  • Associate's degree in an electronics technology discipline from an accredited university or college (or High School diploma / GED with at least two years of experience in Testing and/orTroubleshooting)
  • Active security clearance

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in high volume productionenvironment
  • Experience troubleshooting analog and digital circuits
  • Experienced with general purpose test instruments (digital multimeters, oscilloscopes,powersupplies, function generators, phase angle voltmeters and automated testequipment)
  • Able to fault isolate electronics to the componentlevel
  • Experienced in functional testing and environmental stress screening of class 3 electronicssystems
  • Able to follow technical procedures andspecifications
  • Able to read and understand technical documentation such as schematic diagrams, drawings, and parts lists
  • Experience using hand tools for electronics disassembly and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of IPC-A-610 & J-STD-001 solderingspecifications
  • Basic understanding of embeddedsoftware
  • Familiar with Electric Static Dischargeprecautions
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision by being motivated and a self-starter
  • Keen attention todetail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office and PDFViewers

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
