OBJECTIVE:Â
Department: Head StartÂ
Pay Grade: H5 Non-ExemptÂ
Supervises: No OneÂ
Be responsible for the classroom and implementing curriculum based on knowledge of families’ andÂ
children’s needs and interests. Work with parents to assure that the educational, health and social servicesÂ
needs of individual children and their families are met. Â Work with component coordinators to assureÂ
planning, organization, implementation and follow-through with comprehensive services. Â Teachers are freeÂ
to use personal choices in teaching within the bounds of the Head Start Program curriculum, PerformanceÂ
Standards and best practices in early childhood care and education.Â

A. Active nurturing supervision of children in the classroom.Â
1. Utilize curriculum to fidelity to teach children and keep them actively entertained.Â

B. Must be able to work closely together with other classroom staff to provide direct supervision of children.Â
a. Manage schedules amongst one another to ensure coverageÂ

1. Ability to squat, sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, hear, see, speak, and lift and/or carry at least 40lbs.Â
2. Knowingness of possibility to exposure of blood, bodily fluids, or tissuesÂ
3. Knowingness of possibility to exposure of communicable diseases  Â
F. TechnologyÂ
1. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) proficient.Â
2. Willingness to train in program and agency data management systemsÂ

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Â
A.  45 CFR §1302.91(e)(2)(ii) “…a program must ensure all [preschool] center-based teachers have…anÂ
associate’s or bachelor’s degree in: child development [or] early childhood education (ECE) [with] equivalentÂ
coursework [to a major relating to ECE and experience teaching preschool children], or otherwise meet theÂ
requirements of section 648A(a)(3)(B) of the Act.”1 …and/or willingness to obtain baccalaureate degree withinÂ
two years.Â
B. Â Willingness to complete/continue trainings/certifications - Â Â Â
Any other trainings/certifications deemed necessary. Must maintain certain certifications.Â
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Â
Comply with all background checks required by the program.Â
