SUMMARYÂ Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, reassessment and documentation of care for patients undergoing surgery, outpatient and inpatient care as well. The Registered Nurse provides care to patients in developmental stages ranging from newborn to geriatrics. The Registered Nurse bears full and ultimate responsibility for the quality of the nursing care he or she provides to individuals. The Registered Nurse is expected to adhere to accepted standards of nursing practice, function within the role expectations of the Operating Room, delegate duties to other care givers as required and consistently provide appropriate supervision.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs a comprehensive patient assessment to identify patient needs. Performs testing, care and interventions specific to each patient and needs.
Develops and implements a comprehensive, individualized plan of care.
Protect the patient from injury caused by chemical, laser, positioning, thermal sources and extraneous objects.
Perform count procedures in accordance with policy to protect patient from retained foreign objects.
Perform interventions to assure correct patient, correct site, side and level.
Manage the patient’s specimens appropriately.
Administer medications appropriately
Perform interventions to protect the patient from infection.
Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s normothermia throughout the perioperative period.
Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s base-line physical status
Provide culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within scope of practice.
Protect the patient’s rights and dignity.
Preoperative and postoperative care of the patient
Cross training to circulate and scrub cases as needed
Cross training in the PACU/recovery room nurse role
Cross training in outpatient testing areas
Cross training throughout departments to assist with day to day needs of the facility
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current, unrestricted New York State registered professional nursing license
Must be ACLS certified.
Basic nursing skills with added education surgical procedures and surgical procedures being performed.
Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic agents and basic understanding of the various stages of anesthesia from induction through recovery.
Knowledge and training for providing care to patients from pediatrics to geriatrics.
Performance of testing for required outpatient procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
BSN or BS in Nursing from an accredited school or nursing
National certification in a nursing specialty (AORN)
Good communication and computer skills and an independent, critical thinker with good assessment skills.
PALS certification
Previous Ambulatory Surgery/ Operating Room experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Heavy - Clinical - Heavy clinical roles require continual lifting of more than 50 lbs., pushing and pulling patients or equipment, and working in physically awkward or restrictive positions. Staff must maintain balance and coordination in confined, uneven, or emergent care settings while performing both fine and gross motor tasks. High sensory acuity is needed to recognize patient cues and environmental alerts. Emotional and cognitive demands are significant due to urgent decision-making, managing distressed patients, and functioning effectively in high-pressure clinical situations. Environmental exposures commonly include infectious agents, biohazards, noise, and chemicals. Employees may be required to complete mask-fit testing, TB screening, and participate in extended or on-call shifts.For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.

PAY RANGE:
$42.03 - $57.45The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
