Senior Automation Engineer - Dynatrace

Primary Experience

4+ years in IT Operations, SRE, DevOps, AIOps or Automation Engineering.

3+ years hands-on experience with Dynatrace, including APM, infrastructure monitoring, logs, synthetics, events/problems, dashboards and APIs.

Strong experience in operational automation and toil reduction using Python, PowerShell, Bash or similar scripting technologies.

Proven experience analyzing Incident/Service Request/Problem ticket data to identify repetitive operational activities and automation opportunities.

Experience converting identified opportunities into automation scripts, workflows, runbooks and API-based integrations.

Hands-on experience integrating monitoring events with automation/remediation workflows.

Experience working with ServiceNow or another ITSM platform.

Experience building automation with appropriate validation, error handling, logging, rollback and audit controls.

Ability to work directly with operations/SME teams to understand actual troubleshooting and remediation processes.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze historical tickets and operational data to identify high-volume, repetitive and manual operational toil.

Assess automation opportunities based on frequency, complexity, repeatability, risk and business impact.

Build an automation opportunity backlog and quantify potential effort/toil reduction.

Identify whether each use case is best addressed through rules, scripts, workflow automation, AI-assisted recommendations or agentic automation.

Use Dynatrace telemetry, events, problems and service dependencies to identify opportunities for AIOps-driven investigation and remediation.

Develop automation scripts and workflows using Python, PowerShell, Bash, REST APIs and existing client tools.

Build integrations between Dynatrace and existing client platforms such as ServiceNow, cloud platforms, CI/CD, monitoring and collaboration tools.

Design and implement human-gated remediation for production operations.

Implement recovery validation covering technical health, service/SLO health and business transaction validation.

Develop reusable automation components and runbooks rather than one-off scripts.

Support AIOps use cases such as event correlation, incident enrichment, probable-cause analysis, recommendation and controlled remediation.

Measure automation outcomes including toil reduction, automation coverage, MTTR improvement and recurring-incident reduction.

Work closely with SRE/AIOps architects and operations teams to convert identified opportunities into PDP2 Thin MVP use cases and production-ready automation.

Secondary Experience

Experience with Dynatrace Workflows / Automation Engineer and Dynatrace APIs.

Dynatrace Intelligence / Davis AI experience.

ServiceNow Incident/Problem/Change integration and REST APIs.

AWS/Azure infrastructure and cloud automation.

Kubernetes/EKS and containerized application environments.

Terraform, Ansible or similar infrastructure automation.

Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Harness.

Splunk, CloudWatch or other observability/monitoring platforms.

REST APIs, webhooks and event-driven architectures.

Slack/Microsoft Teams operational integrations.

Experience with AI/GenAI, LLM, RAG or AI-agent based IT operations.

Understanding of SLI/SLO, error budgets and SRE practices.

Experience developing automation business cases and ROI/toil-reduction calculations.
