As a managerial member of the Risk Department, the Risk Manager exercises independent judgment within established authority, establishes priorities, manages workflows, drives issue resolution, and provides timely recommendations and escalations to the Chief Legal Officer.

This role works closely with Legal, Insurance, Safety, Operations, Project Management, Accounting, and other business partners to maintain effective controls, monitor compliance and exposure, and ensure insurance, bonding, SDI, and prequalification requirements support project execution and RNGD’s broader risk strategy.

Core Responsibilities

  • Heavy and Mission Critical Project Risk Management
    • Serve as a primary risk-management partner for assigned Heavy and Mission Critical insurance, bonding, pursuit, subcontractor, and project-risk matters.
    • Collaborate with the Chief Legal Officer and Legal, Risk, Insurance, and Safety team members to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and communicate operational and project risks.
    • Develop practical risk-mitigation recommendations that support project execution while protecting RNGD’s contractual and financial interests.
    • Coordinate follow-through with Operations, Project Management, Accounting, and other stakeholders responsible for resolving identified issues.
    • Monitor significant open risks, maintain visibility into required actions, and escalate material concerns promptly.

  • Project Insurance and Bond Management
    • Oversee the collection and review of expiring project-related insurance policies, certificates of insurance, endorsements, and other evidence of coverage from subcontractors, consultants, and other counterparties.
    • Manage company-wide expiration, renewal, outstanding-item, approval-status, and document-retention controls for project-related insurance.
    • Oversee the receipt, review, approval routing, and tracking of subcontractor payment and performance bonds, riders, powers of attorney, and related surety documentation for Heavy and Mission Critical projects.
    • Review bond submissions against project and contractual requirements, including principal and obligee information, project identification, bond type, penal sum, execution, dates, seals, powers of attorney, and required attachments.
    • Identify insurance or bond deficiencies, coordinate resolution within established authority, and escalate material exceptions or unresolved issues.
    • Maintain reliable insurance and bond records that support project execution, audits, claims, renewals, and closeout.

  • RFP, Bid, Proposal, and Contract Risk Review
    • Lead the insurance, bonding, and risk-review components of assigned RFPs, bids, proposals, contracts, and subcontracts, with a primary focus on Heavy and Mission Critical opportunities.
    • Analyze insurance and bond requirements, identify material exposures, and develop recommendations for review with the Chief Legal Officer and other stakeholders.
    • Document significant assumptions, exceptions, unresolved requirements, and required follow-up before submission or execution.
    • Partner with Legal, Operations, Project Management, and Accounting to address matters that could affect contracting, mobilization, payment, project performance, or closeout.
    • Escalate legal interpretations, material exceptions, uninsured exposures, and risk-acceptance decisions outside the role’s established authority.
    • Develop and maintain consistent review checklists, documentation standards, and approval workflows.

  • Subcontractor Default Insurance Program Management
    • Manage company-wide SDI enrollment records by subcontractor and project, including enrollment status, subcontract values, approved exclusions, pending information, project assignments, and changes in exposure.
    • Monitor changes to enrolled subcontract values and project assignments and coordinate with project, accounting, operations, and insurance personnel to validate information.
    • Own the SDI reporting calendar and oversee the preparation and submission of required subcontractor, project, exposure, and enrollment reports.
    • Monitor subcontractor performance, schedule concerns, payment issues, and other indicators of potential default and direct appropriate follow-up.
    • Manage SDI claims administration, including notices, supporting documentation, provider communications, loss information, recovery information, and status reporting.
    • Escalate material default concerns, coverage questions, claim issues, and program exceptions to the Chief Legal Officer and other authorized stakeholders.

  • Subcontractor Prequalification and Performance Risk
    • Lead the administration and continuous improvement of RNGD’s subcontractor prequalification program.
    • Oversee the collection, organization, and review of required subcontractor information using established criteria and approval processes.
    • Identify financial, operational, insurance, bonding, safety, performance, or capacity concerns that could affect subcontractor suitability or project execution.
    • Develop clear risk assessments and recommendations for review by the appropriate operational and executive stakeholders.
    • Partner with Operations, Project Management, Accounting, Safety, Legal, and Insurance to validate information and address identified concerns.
    • Maintain accurate prequalification records, conditions, expiration dates, open items, and approval statuses and route exceptions through the appropriate authority.

  • Risk Team Leadership, Reporting, and Program Improvement
    • Establish priorities, assign and monitor work, manage deadlines, and ensure consistent execution of assigned risk-management processes.
    • Provide guidance, training, coaching, and performance feedback to assigned personnel and other team members supporting these functions.
    • Prepare and present regular management reports regarding insurance compliance, bond status, expirations, renewals, SDI exposure, subcontractor risk, open issues, trends, and recommended actions.
    • Maintain effective controls, documentation standards, approval requirements, and accountability across assigned programs.
    • Use recurring issues, performance trends, and stakeholder feedback to improve workflows, reporting, communication, and risk controls.
    • Protect confidential legal, financial, safety, claim, insurance, and subcontractor information.
    • Perform other managerial and risk-related duties as directed by the Chief Legal Officer or Risk Department leadership.
