The Infusion Nurse is a skilled Registered Nurse who demonstrates a high level of comprehensive understanding of pharmacological and nursing principles for all age groups. The Infusion Nurse works independently, providing individualized care that meets patient needs and infusion therapy goals. Ā The Infusion Nurse is responsible for direct patient care for infusion patients, processing and maintaining therapy plans, scheduling patients, and other tasks assigned.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Line

  • Outpatient and Inpatient Referrals, processing and implementation of therapy plans, scheduling for patients.
  • Participates in committees as assigned and assists with the implementation and guidance of policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for staff, patients, providers, and the public.
  • Collaborates with providers and other members of the healthcare team to facilitate assessment findings, status, and current review of patient care, therapy regimens, and treatment plans.
  • Maintains infusion therapy patient records both in the EMR and paper chart.
  • Coordinates patient scheduling with pharmacy, physicians, and available staff.
  • Reviews and implements current and new therapy plans.
  • Works directly with pharmacy on inputting new therapy plans.
  • Daily and weekly review of therapy plans that include authorization, new prescriptions, and discontinued plans.
  • Works with leader to achieve yearly department goals, monthly budget, and long-term goals for the infusion department.Ā

  • Possesses familiarity with the hospital environment and care codes, including appropriate responses.

Infection

Control/Employee Health

  • Utilizes all hospital and patient care infection control policies and standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of standard precautions and aseptic technique.Ā 
  • Reports exposures promptly and seeks assistance for care/follow-up.Ā Ā 

Patient Care

  • Performs direct patient care within scope of RN practice act and according to hospital policies and procedures, when needed or assigned.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of errors.
  • Demonstrates knowledge level necessary to assess patient’s psychosocial, educational and physical needs, and the knowledge and skill to address these needs in an age-appropriate manner for all age groups.
  • Responds quickly and appropriately to emergency situations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Active RN licensure in the state of Washington.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified through the AHA and maintained while employed.Ā 
  • Experience using Electronic Health Care Record for patient documentation and Provider EMR support.

Preferred

  • Infusion nursing experience
  • Wound care experience or certification

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ā 

This position is primarily worked in a clinical environment. The position will require the ability to lift, and carry, up to 50 pounds and push or pull over 50 pounds. The position will require bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, reaching overhead, sitting and standing frequently. Occasionally the position requires climbing, kneeling and crawling. The position requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation. All basic life functions such as hearing, seeing, speaking, standing and walking are required.
