RMC Production Manager

The RMC Production Manager leads the people, plants, and delivery operations that produce and deliver ready-mixed concrete within an assigned market area. This role is accountable for safe, reliable production, effective use of the truck fleet, product quality, and the development of plant and driver teams.
The Production Manager turns customer demand and regional business priorities into workable daily plans. The role works closely with dispatch, sales, quality control, and equipment maintenance to match commitments to available capacity, resolve problems quickly, and improve performance over time.

Essential Functions
Safety & Leadership
•    Lead a work environment where Coworkers identify hazards, follow safe work practices, and speak up when conditions change.
•    Directly supervise and develop plant operations and ready-mix driver teams, including staffing, scheduling, training, performance feedback, and accountability.
•    Maintain a regular presence at plants and jobsites to understand working conditions, coach Coworkers, and address operational concerns.
•    Ensure incidents, near misses, vehicle events, and quality issues are reported promptly, investigated, and followed through to corrective action.
•    Build the skills and depth needed to cover critical plant and delivery responsibilities.

Production & Delivery
•    Oversee daily operation of assigned RMC plants and drivers to produce and deliver concrete safely, on time, and to specification.
•    Coordinate with dispatch to align orders, plant capacity, truck availability, driver schedules, and changing jobsite conditions.
•    Anticipate constraints in staffing, equipment, materials, and production capacity. Adjust operating plans and communicate impacts before they disrupt customer commitments.
•    Establish clear operating expectations for batching, loading, delivery, washout, housekeeping, and plant readiness.
•    Partner with quality control to implement mix designs, investigate product concerns, reduce rejected loads, and maintain consistent production practices.
•    Respond to service disruptions and customer concerns in coordination with dispatch, sales, and the Regional RMC Manager.

Fleet, Plants, & Compliance
•    Partner with Equipment Services and maintenance teams to plan preventive maintenance, prioritize repairs, and reduce avoidable downtime.
•    Monitor the condition and use of plants, trucks, and other assigned assets. Recommend repairs, replacements, and capital improvements based on operating needs and performance.
•    Ensure required inspections, records, and operating practices support compliance with applicable DOT, environmental, safety, and company requirements.
•    Manage driver availability, qualifications, and work schedules in coordination with the teams responsible for regulatory compliance.

Performance & Improvement
•    Monitor production and delivery measures such as safety performance, on-time delivery, truck utilization, plant availability, overtime, material loss, rejected loads, and operating cost.
•    Use operating data and Coworker feedback to identify recurring problems, determine their causes, and put practical improvements in place.
•    Support the Regional RMC Manager with operating plans, staffing forecasts, budgets, and recommendations for equipment and capacity investments.
•    Work across sales, dispatch, quality control, and operations to improve communication, service, and the profitable use of available capacity.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
•    High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
•    5 or more years of experience in ready-mixed concrete or the construction materials industry, including progressively responsible operational leadership experience.
•    High aptitude for problem solving, operational coordination, and process improvement.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of ready-mixed concrete production, plant operations, dispatch, and delivery.
•    Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and build effective working relationships with coworkers, customers, and operational leaders.
•    Ability to lead both plant and driver teams across multiple locations and shifting daily priorities.
•    Working knowledge of applicable driver, vehicle, safety, and environmental requirements, with the judgment to involve subject matter experts when needed.
•    Ability to use operating and financial information to diagnose problems, manage costs, and improve results.
•    Strong organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail and execution.
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•    Demonstrated ability to identify issues, recommend solutions, and drive accountability through influence and collaboration.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications and business systems software.
•    Valid driver’s license and compliant with NESL’s driving standards.
