Registered Medication Aide’s Position summary:

 

The Registered Medication Aide will maintain the ongoing personal care for all residents during his or shift, including completion of special tasks such as activities, laundry and some light housekeeping.  He or she will be supervised by the Resident Care Coordinator, Supervisor and report to the Director of Nursing.  This is an hourly position.  Designated nursing stations and medication rooms will be the central work area.  

 

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Upon arrival, read the 24-Hour Log back to your last day of work.
  2. Conduct room checks with previous shift.
  3. Drug count with previous shift if a Registered Medication Aide and sign narc count sheets.
  4. Pass all medication at scheduled times per physician order and audit cart for expired medications.
  5. Document on all residents with changes in medication, falls and/or etc. Report changes in resident conditions, document in care suite, 24-hour log and make MD aware.
  6. Order medications and ensure all medications have arrived from previous day ordering.
  7. Administer medications per regulations and prescriptions.
  8. Provide personal care assistance as needed to residents based on the implemented service plan.  (Baths, continence checks, escort services, etc.)
  9. Check 30-minute room checks on memory care and 2-hour on AL and document.
  10. Conduct other rooms checks per service plan.
  11. Answer all call lights in a timely manner.
  12. Wear walkie-talkies at all times.
  13. Complete task sheets, laundry, and general cleaning as needed.
  14. Contact physician offices or family members as necessary regarding the resident’s condition.  Contacts can be for medication refill, needed appointment, incidents, needed supplies and discharge paperwork.
  15. Help serve meals and clean up, keeping in mind the dietary needs of the residents.
  16. Encourage residents’ involvement in socialization and participation in activities.  Assist with activities as needed or conduct activity.  Gather residents for activities and conduct activities with supplies provided when Activity Coordinator is not present.
  17. Greet all visitors in a courteous manner.
  18. Always be alert to the emergency medical needs of residents and secure assistance when needed. Call 911 if resident emergencies arrive, have paperwork ready for EMS/ Funeral Home.
  19. Repair or correct any minor items (toilet paper, light bulbs working, microwave off, etc.).
  20. Notify the Administrator, Director of Nursing, Resident Care Coordinator, or Maintenance person of any faulty equipment or necessary repairs of building in writing.  If it is an emergency and the Administrator or the Director of Nursing cannot be contacted at home; call the cell phone.
  21. Call the Administrator/ DON/ RCC in all emergencies.
  22. Answer incoming calls.  Take messages and distribute them through the staff mailboxes.
  23. Give tours of the facility if the Marketing Director or Administrator is unavailable. Fill out card when tour is completed and put in HR box.
  24. Enforce the house rules, which are incorporated into the residents’ lease.
  25. Respect and honor the residents’ rights as stated in the “Residents Rights and Responsibilities”.
  26. Update and submit list of supplies needing to be ordered to the Director of Nursing.
  27. At the completion of your shift, record any “news” in the computer 24-Hour Log: change in status, admission, transfers, etc. complete on the paper 24-Hour Log and sign your name. Make sure all medications have been clicked off.
  28. Make sure shower logs and skin assessment logs are complete after showers are completed.
  29. Residents weight and vitals are to be completed by the 5th of each month and recorded. 
  30. Remain in the facility until the next shift person relieves you.  Do a security room check with next shift.
  31. Complete nursing notes in computer prior to the end of the shift.  If computer is not operational, complete the paper Nurses Notes and sign your name.
  32. Participate in staff meetings.
  33. Take trash out before leaving.
  34. Complete and provide documentation of attending 18 hours of in-service education annually.
  35. Complete all other tasks as assigned by the management team.  
  36. Exhibit teamwork with all departments.
  37. When blue dotted staff member must stay over for on coming shift when there is a call out or on coming shift is running late or a no call no show. 
  38. Staff must stay awake and alert during all shifts.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

Current certifications as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Direct Care Staff or Personal Care Aide; CPR, First Aid and Registered Medication Aide licensure.  Must also have an outgoing personality, patience and compassion.  Flexibility and the ability to communicate in a pleasant voice and manner.  One year experience working with the older adults is preferred.

 

Supervisory responsibility:

 

The person in this position only supervises nursing staff on shift/ unit assigned. It does require reporting any misconduct of employees or unusual changes in any of our residents to safeguard their health, physical, and mental safety.  









 

Equipment to be used:

 

Use of equipment related to the personal care of residents and the general cleanliness of the facility.  Must be proficient in the use of blood pressure cuff, thermometer, and all other vital sign equipment.  Use of weight scale, and adaptive equipment to enhance residents’ quality of life. Use of glucometer and insulin needle pens. 



 

Mental and Physical demands:

 

The direct care staff must be able to meet a work schedule with multi-faceted tasks.  Physically, he or she must have the stamina to carry out repetitive activities and the hand dexterity with which to operate equipment related to residents’ personal care, medical needs, or needed documentation.  He or she must have the physical strength to lift and manipulate residents utilizing proper lifting techniques and the weight of at least 40-pound objects or any size resident.  This is to ensure that the support and personal care is given to all residents.

 

Staff must possess the analytical and observational skills to make decisions that would safeguard the health and safety and service plans of residents in care.

 

Working Conditions:

 

You work in the designated nurse’s station, halls, dining rooms, and studios of residents.  Indoors and some outdoors activities may be required as you support other staff in kitchen, dining room, and activities.  The purpose is to ensure the staff’s knowledge of residents’ behavior, health, general location and availability to respond to emergencies.  The staff work area is located in designated nurses station and throughout interior and exterior of building floor will be your central point of work.

 

Dress Code:

 

The direct care staff must always dress professionally and wear company name badge.  Appropriate clothing is uniform of facility (blue scrub top and scrub pants). Jeans, shorts, sports clothes, open-toed shoes, and sandals are not acceptable daily attire.









 

Employment is contingent upon proof of USA citizenship or work permit, a valid Virginia driver’s license, a social security card, nursing assistant certificate, criminal background check and passage of a drug screening.
