The Tesla Energy Products team is bringing battery and solar technology to the grid to facilitate a renewable energy ecosystem and redefine the way the world will use energy in the future. As part of the Energy products Controls team, you are the System Controls Engineer that ensures optimal performance of Tesla’s Powerwall, Solar, Charging, V2X and home ecosystem. This role involves collaboration with multiple teams, including engineering, firmware, integration, validation, and field performance.  It also requires the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to the design and implementation of power system controls algorithms that are at the core of Tesla’s success.  Our team is small, committed, fast-moving, and we believe a diverse team of motivated individuals can accomplish almost anything.  We are problem solvers, team players and game changers. What You’ll Do

  • Model and design system level control algorithms to manage power and energy flow of Tesla’s Powerwall systems
  • Manage algorithms for power converters, loads, vehicle charging, vehicle grid and load interaction (V2X) in compliance with applicable grid standards
  • Develop control-oriented system models and use them to refine control strategies and drive their implementation
  • Write system controls requirements for existing and next generations of residential energy products
  • Prepare technical reports and summaries for stakeholders
  • Work cross-functionally with product, firmware, system integration, design, and reliability teams

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience with power electronics and power systems control system design
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Strong knowledge in controls theory, linear systems analysis, and estimation algorithms
  • Demonstrated ability to ground-up design, model, and implement control systems for real-world applications
  • Proficiency with Python and C (read)
  • Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and execute on open-ended projects in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment
  • Preferred: Familiar with compliance and standards for interconnection of distributed energy resources such as IEEE 1547, 2800, etc.
  • Preferred: Hands on testing and tuning power electronics control algorithms on hardware

    Expected Compensation$128,000 - $264,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
