START DATE: November/December 2026
We are seeking a Research Scientist to join an early-stage life sciences company developing innovative tools for proteomics research. The company focuses on electrokinetic microfluidic devices integrated with mass spectrometry and database search technologies designed to help laboratories study proteins more efficiently and reliably. This hands-on position combines laboratory research and development with scientific grant proposal writing, including leading an NIH Phase 2 funding application as Principal Investigator. The selected candidate will work closely with company leadership to advance product development, initially focusing on research laboratory applications, with potential future diagnostic applications. As the company grows and achieves its funding objectives, there may be opportunities to advance into a senior leadership position.
Responsibilities
- Conduct hands-on laboratory research using microfluidic devices and mass spectrometry instrumentation.
- Support research and development efforts to advance the company's initial product for laboratory research applications.
- Lead the NIH Phase 2 funding application process, serving as Principal Investigator.
- Prepare scientific grant proposals and applications for future research funding opportunities.
- Collaborate with company leadership to develop funding proposals based on established research objectives and project requirements.
Qualifications
- Approximately four years of experience developing laboratory tools, scientific instrumentation, or closely related technologies.
- Educational or professional background in chemistry, engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
- Experience in at least one of the following technical areas:
- Proteomics database searching and related technologies.
- Electrokinetic microfluidic devices used in conjunction with mass spectrometry.
- Eligibility to serve as Principal Investigator on NIH grants, with no restrictions or disqualifications from federal research funding.
- Ability to perform hands-on laboratory research while managing scientific writing and grant development responsibilities.
- Broad technical capabilities and the ability to contribute across multiple areas of research and development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience preparing scientific grant proposals, particularly for NIH funding.
- Experience with both microfluidic device development and proteomics software or database searching.
