Research Associate (Structural Fire Engineering)

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) conducts research in structural engineering, sustainable construction and infrastructure resilience. The successful candidate will join a research team working on structural fire engineering, with opportunities to contribute to experimental investigations, numerical modelling and advanced computational methods.

We are looking for a Research Associate to investigate the behaviour and performance of structures under fire conditions. The role will involve structural fire analysis, numerical simulations, experimental investigations and the exploration of AI-assisted approaches for structural fire engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research on structural behaviour and fire resistance under fire conditions.
• Develop numerical models and perform structural fire simulations using finite element software.
• Assist in planning and conducting structural fire experiments and analysing test results.
• Investigate structural performance, failure mechanisms and fire resistance through experimental and numerical studies.
• Explore AI and machine learning applications for efficient structural fire analysis.
• Prepare technical reports, research publications and presentations, and support project deliverables.

Job Requirements:

• A Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• Good knowledge of structural mechanics, structural analysis and structural behaviour.
• Experience with finite element software such as ABAQUS, SAFIR or ANSYS would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of structural fire engineering or experimental structural testing would be an advantage.
• Programming skills in Python or MATLAB and interest in AI applications would be beneficial.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
