What to Expect
Tesla Energy is deploying the world’s largest BESS fleet, from Powerwall to Megapack, across dozens of markets. Regulatory safety certification is the gate between engineering and the market.
As a Regulatory Safety Engineer, you will own product safety standards and market-entry rules for BESS and supporting power electronics. You will turn IEC, UL, CSA, and EN requirements into clear design specs, then take products from first design review through to certificate issue. You will work with hardware, power electronics, firmware, and systems so compliance is designed in, not added at the end.
What You’ll Do
- Keep a current map of market-entry requirements for BESS and related equipment across North America, Europe, Australia, and new markets
- Watch for new and changing standards, and flag regulatory risk to engineering and programme leadership
- Write Compliance Product Design Requirements — internal specs that turn safety standards into testable design rules
- Cover product standards such as IEC 62619, IEC 62933, IEC 62109/62477, UL 9540/9540A, UL 1741, and UL 1973, plus core safety rules such as IEC 60664, IEC 60990, and IEC 60529
- Lead design reviews, catch compliance gaps early, and drive fixes to closure
- Own CE marking from start to finish: assessment route, technical file, DoC, and Notified Body liaison
- Set the certification plan across UL/cUL, CB Scheme, CE, and AS/NZS
- Write test plans and lead testing in-house and at accredited labs
- Root-cause certification failures and manage reports, certificates, surveillance, and recertification after design changes
- Act as the regulatory safety SME, support field issues, and mentor junior engineers
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent
- 5+ years in product safety certification for power electronics or energy storage
- Proven CE marking experience, including technical files, DoCs, and Notified Body liaison
- Hands-on BESS and power electronics certification against IEC 62619, 62933, 62109/62477, UL 9540, UL 1741, and UL 1973
- Able to read complex standards, resolve grey areas with labs and regulators, and turn them into testable specs
- Lab experience with power analysers, oscilloscopes, insulation testers, and environmental chambers
- Clear written and spoken English
