Position Overview
The School of Pharmacy seeks a full-time, non‑tenure‑track faculty member at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor to deliver high-quality learning experiences and education for students in the PharmD program. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, service, and scholarly activities, and will work collaboratively with the Director of Experiential Education, Department of Pharmacy Practice, and colleagues in the School of Pharmacy. Additionally, the faculty member will provide mentorship to students and contribute to the visibility, impact, and reputation of the University and its programs through scholarly engagement.In addition to faculty responsibilities, this position will serve as the Regional Program Coordinator for Region 1 (Manhattan, Topeka, Lawrence, KC Metro). This role is responsible for the comprehensive coordination and support of experiential education sites and preceptors within the region. This work is essential to ensuring high-quality experiential learning experiences through effective site management, preceptor engagement, and continuous quality improvement. The role requires close collaboration with experiential education leadership, preceptors, and practice sites to support student learning and program outcomes.
The selected candidate will also have responsibilities teaching laboratory and didactic courses within the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Subject matter expertise may include, but is not limited to, ambulatory care, community pharmacy, internal medicine, oncology, critical care, pediatrics, cardiology, or related areas. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, 12-month, faculty position with required travel. The position will primarily travel to visit preceptors in the Manhattan, Topeka, Lawrence, and KC Metro areas. This position will have set in-person days on the University of Kansas Lawrence campus and/or hybrid flexibility aligned with experiential education program needs.
The Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement between The University of Kansas and United Academics. Job Description
Preceptor Support Coordinator – Region 1 (Manhattan, Topeka, Lawrence, KC Metro)60%
- Development, coordination, and ongoing management of student rotation schedules
- Maintenance, onboarding, and support of experiential rotation sites
- Oversight and management of experiential education policies, procedures, and rotation syllabi
- Coordination of assessment and quality improvement initiatives for preceptors and experiential sites
- Utilization and optimization of experiential education management systems and departmental websites
- Preceptor recruitment and retention activities, including site development and in‑person site visits
- Design and implementation of preceptor development programs and educational initiatives
- Ongoing preceptor and site relationship management, including issue resolution and problem-solving
- Maintains an ongoing understanding of contemporary pharmacy practice, healthcare delivery, and clinical standards to effectively mentor student pharmacists and support high-quality experiential education.
25% Teaching
- Responsible for instruction, assessment, remediation, and course coordination for didactic and active-learning laboratory courses in the Pharmacy School curriculum for the PharmD program.
- Delivery of didactic, laboratory and/or elective instruction in the PharmD program as assigned by the Chair of Pharmacy Practice
- Participate in and provide support to interprofessional education activities, as assigned
- Participate in and provide support to objective structured learning examination/objective structured clinical examination activities
- Earn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Instructor Certification in order to provide Basic Life Support training to pharmacy students on the KU Lawrence Campus.
- Serve on department, school, and/or university committees, as assigned
- Participate in regional, state, and/or national professional organizations through committee service and volunteer activities
- Support student engagement in outreach activities such as health fairs and service initiatives
- Contribute to faculty recruitment efforts through participation on search committees, as assigned
- Build and sustain productive relationships with professional organizations and partners within the healthcare and pharmacy sectors
- Support student development through academic advising, professional mentorship, and active involvement with student organizations and professional societies.
- Participate in research and scholarship resulting in conference presentations and abstracts, peer-reviewed published manuscripts, peer-reviewed instructional materials, textbook chapters, or invited lectures or presentations.
- Research may include any type of practice- or educational-based research, with funding as needed to support the research.
- Research support may be obtained via direct grant or contract.

Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of non-residency work experience in direct patient care
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience at the college/university level
