Position Overview

TheFamily Support Children’s Program Recreation Aide is responsible for caring for children during Charles River Center’s Kid’s Break, social groups, and School Vacation programs, along with other current and future Family Support programs. This position requires participation in community-based experiences with individuals served by the Charles River Center.

Duties include:

• Providingdirect care and behavior management
• Implementingprogram-based behavioral interventions
• Supporting thedevelopment of social, communication, personal, and physical skills
• Assisting withactivities of daily living as needed

This rolemay require lifting or assisting physically disabled children weighing between40 to 100pounds as necessary.

PRIMARY DUTIES

• Provide direct care and supervision for children with and without special needs (ages 8+) during integrated programs.
• Assistwith toileting, diaper changes, clothing changes, personal hygiene, and feeding meals (e.g., lunch and snacks).
• Act as apositive role model by demonstrating appropriate dress, language, and character.
• Work with individuals onbehavior management, personal development, social skills, communication, and physical development.
• Facilitatecommunity integration by accompanying participants on outings and engaging in activities.
• Report issues to the Coordinator, Assistant Director, or Director of Family Support and complete Incident Reports as needed.
• Collaborate as ateam player with Coordinators and fellow Recreation Aides.
• Support volunteers, making them feelwelcome, useful, and appreciated.
• Organizeengaging activitiessuchas games, sports, arts & crafts, swimming, exercise, music, and more.
• Fosterconsistent and supportive relationships with children so they feel secure and welcome.
• Createinclusive experiences that involve both children with and without special needs.
• Establishtrusting relationships with families so they feelsupported and confident in the program.
• Communicate with families regarding their expectations and specific needs for their children.
• Followfamily instructions on diet, medications, interventions, and permitted activities.
• Maintain cleanliness bytidying up activity spaces and treating family possessions with respect.
• Attend team meetings as scheduled.
• Performother duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or currently attending high school.
• Experience working withspecial needs populations preferred but not required.
• Interest in working with children or adults with special needs is essential.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrates anappreciation for the personal worth and dignity of individuals with disabilities.
• Willingness to attendjob-related training at the Charles River Center in Needham.
• Basic computer skills preferred.
