Job OverviewĀ 

Caterpillar Inc., a global leader in industrial equipment manufacturing, is hiring aĀ CNC Machinist / Lathe OperatorĀ to support precision machining operations in our Decatur, IL facility. This position is ideal for candidates with experience inĀ CNC machining,Ā machine shop operations, andĀ blueprint interpretation. You’ll work with advanced equipment includingĀ vertical turret lathesĀ andĀ multi-axis CNC machinesĀ to produce high-tolerance components used in Caterpillar’s heavy equipment.Ā

Key ResponsibilitiesĀ 

  • Set up and operate CNC machining centers for turning, milling, drilling, hobbing, shaping, and skiving.Ā 

  • Manually operate vertical turret lathes for precision machining.Ā 

  • Adjust single spindle automatic cutoff machines for barstock and tubing.Ā 

  • Load/unload machines and follow safe working methods.Ā 

  • Interpret CMM data and apply quality control plans.Ā 

  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace using 5S and TPM principles.Ā 

Ā 

Required QualificationsĀ 

  • Technical school diploma or equivalent in mechanical/manufacturing disciplines.Ā 

  • Prior experience in a machine shop or CNC machining environment.Ā 

  • Strong blueprint reading and machine drawing interpretation skills.Ā 

  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.Ā 

  • Willingness to work any assigned shift.Ā 

Ā 

Preferred QualificationsĀ 

  • Experience with multi-axis CNC machines and vertical turret lathes.Ā 

  • Familiarity with 5S (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).Ā
