This is a hands-on leadership position with regular shop-floor presence across shifts. Partner with Operations, Engineering, HR, Purchasing, and supervisors to make quality and safe work part of daily execution.
Quality responsibilities
- Maintain and improve the QMS in alignment with ISO 9001, applicable ABS and ATEX requirements, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements; manage document control and quality records.
- Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspections; manage inspection plans, product traceability, calibration, and monitoring and measuring equipment.
- Lead internal audits, coordinate external and customer audits, and prepare management reviews with assigned actions and follow-up.
- Manage nonconforming products, customer complaints, warranty investigations, and supplier quality issues; support product recalls when necessary and lead root cause analysis and verify corrective-action effectiveness.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations on inspection and test requirements, release documentation, customer data packs, and approved dispositions.
- Evaluate supplier quality performance and lead, train, and develop assigned quality inspectors and technicians.
Safety and occupational health responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain applicable OSHA safety and occupational health programs; assess hazards and maintain practical procedures, training, and records.
- Lead routine shop inspections and job hazard analyses. Prioritize risks, assign corrective actions with owners and deadlines, and verify closure.
- Manage programs for PPE, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, electrical and test-area safety, forklifts, cranes and rigging, hazard communication, and emergency response as applicable.
- Assess exposure risks such as noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, and heat. Coordinate qualified industrial hygiene support, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, or other controls when required.
- Lead incident, injury, and near-miss investigations; identify causes and implement preventive actions. Maintain required OSHA records and coordinate required reporting.
- Deliver onboarding, refresher, and task-specific safety training; verify understanding and coordinate coverage across shifts. Lead safety meetings and emergency drills.
- Coach supervisors on consistent enforcement. Document violations and coordinate corrective action with supervisors and HR under company policy. Encourage reporting without retaliation.
- Review safety requirements for contractors, visitors, new equipment, process changes, and facility projects before work begins.
Environmental responsibilities
- Determine applicable federal, Texas, and local environmental requirements with qualified support as needed; maintain a compliance calendar, permits, inspections, and required reports.
- Oversee chemical inventories, Safety Data Sheets, labeling, storage, spill prevention, and response. Coordinate appropriate waste classification, handling, disposal, and vendor documentation.
- Assess and manage applicable industrial and hazardous waste, used oil, air emissions, wastewater, and industrial stormwater obligations, including permit or exemption documentation.
- Train employees on applicable environmental procedures and investigate spills or environmental events; track corrective actions and coordinate required notifications.
Continuous improvement
Identify improvements, standardize processes, and partner with Operations to improve efficiency, documentation, and workflow. Support employee training and skills development.
Authority and shared accountability
- Stop unsafe work and require immediate protective measures. Hold nonconforming materials or products from use or shipment pending authorized disposition.
- Escalate unresolved or serious quality and EHS risks directly to senior leadership. Require corrective-action owners to provide status and evidence of completion.
- Operations and supervisors remain accountable for safe execution, daily enforcement, and product quality in their areas. HR supports consistent discipline, employee records, and related personnel matters.
- Recommend improvements and spending priorities within delegated authority. Engage qualified external specialists for technical matters beyond internal capability.
