Job Summary:

Safely drive and operate Schwing, Putzmeister or other concrete pumps of various boom lengths or line pumps.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:The following is a list of essential duties & key responsibilities assigned to the role. Other duties may be assigned.

• Pre-trip inspection of concrete pumps pursuant to DOT regulations. Pre-trip inspection includes checking fluid levels of engine oil, antifreeze, tire pressure, brakes and other driver operated controls such as hydraulic systems, line systems, and hydraulics.

• Fills water tank before each project by placing rubber hose into water tank and filling after checking that all valves are shut.

• Safely drives to project site that is assigned.

• Uses map book, google map on tablet and/or experience and takes most direct route to job site to ensure on time service.

• Safely drives concrete pump into site and works with contractor or homeowner to set up pump in a safe position.

• Pump concrete pursuant to customer desire with respect to yards per hour in the safest manner.

• Upon completion, operator will clean out pump systems in the project were desired by contractor or homeowner, in an environmentally responsible manner.

• Keep pump dispatch informed as to the status of projects via two-way radio, digital pagers and cellular phones, if available.

• Prior to leaving job site, driver is responsible for completing all paperwork and collection of monies if necessary.

• Each operator is responsible to call callout each afternoon or evening, for next day’s start time.

• Each operator is expected to perform a post trip inspection of the concrete pump pursuant to DOT standards and identifies any issues with vehicle of relevant repairs. These repairs must be recorded and submitted on the daily inspection’s vehicle report. Communications with maintenance is imperative.

• If operator is not assigned a pumping event and called to work, operator may be asked to work or clean on pump or other related duties.

• Maintain effective working relationships with company employees, suppliers, and customers. Promote and maintain the professional image and reputation of the company and ensure timely problem resolution and customer satisfaction.

• Other duties as assigned by the placing manager.


QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:

• Must have education or the equivalent experience, certificates, licenses, and registrations for pump operations

Language Skills:

• Must be able to read, write and speak English

Mathematical Skills:

• Must be able to perform simple math such as addition and subtraction.

• Must be able to handle cash and make change.

Reasoning Ability:

• Must be able to deal with customers and other employees in a diplomatic manner in a variety of stressful situations.

• Must safely operate pump truck and perform tasks that are congruent with company policy, and within state and federal laws.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Have a valid CDL driver’s license.

• Previous Heavy Duty Truck experience

• Pass The American Concrete Pumping Association (ACPA) test, within the first twelve (12) months of employment and maintain an ACPA recertification every two (2) years.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The work environment and physical demands described here are characteristic and representative of those that must be made by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


This would be considered moderately strenuous work. There are various postures, movements, lifting, carrying, and push/pull requirements are as follows:

• There is approximately four hours per day of sitting. This would be considered driving to and from job site to plant, waiting to drive to projects and lunches. There is approximately four to five hours per day of standing on feet. This would be pumping concrete, cleaning truck, standing on pump deck washing hopper and pipe (the hour calculation is based on a ten-hour workday, which could be longer or shorter based on customer demand).

• The driver must be able to lift the desired weights at the frequency designated. For example, the following items are part of the job task requirements: rubber hose, map book, delivery tickets, remote for concrete pump, empty three-gallon pails at a weight of approximately 5 pounds and thirty pounds full and the frequency demand is eleven to thirty-three percent of the time. Empty five-gallon pails weight approximately seven pounds and approximately fifty pounds full. Metal pipe weighing between twenty and forty pounds with a frequency demand of thirty to forty percent of time. Rubber hose weighing between thirty and forty pounds.

• The push/pull demand for the pump operator consists of using handles to pull oneself into and out of truck. Pulling oneself up ladder, the force will vary depending on weight and technique. The operator must push/pull the door of pump. There is also push/pull in operating shift/clutch operation as well as operating controls at a height of seventy-one inches. There are also regular push/pull forces in setting up system with clamps, pipe, and reducers. There are also push/pull requirements when working on pumps and when cleaning pumps with a brush.

• There are positional requirements of the pump operator that happen frequently. Neck flexion and neck rotation are frequent to observe pours, read map book, setting up system, observation while driving, operations of pump controls and remotes, reversing truck on job sites.

• There is neck bending that happens occasionally when observing concrete flow and cleaning truck. Trunk bending is a frequent physical demand for driving, filling water tank, working on pump, fastening clamps and cleaning underside of truck. There is frequent twisting in the observation of work. There is occasional squatting on low level cleaning and position pump stationary device, climbing of pump stairs, getting in and out of truck, climbing onto truck while filling water tank is a frequent physical demand of a pump operator. There is continuous reaching out (shoulder height) and grasping in climbing, driving, telephone, pager, operating controls, grasping brush while cleaning, trigger nozzle on hose, and controlling flow of concrete. There is also frequent reaching up and finger manipulation in the operation of remote.

• The pump operator will work outside approximately seventy percent of the time and indoors approximately thirty percent of the time. The temperature range exposure is from -40 to 100+ degrees F. depending on the time of year. Other weather and environmental conditions that may persist are rain, snow, sleet, wind, high humidity, and often muddy or icy conditions on both roads and job sites.

• The concrete pump operator is subject to severe exposure to chemicals such as cement, lime, ASTM Type A, B, C, D, E, F chemical admixtures, hydraulic fluid, and diesel fuel.

• The concrete pump operator is subject to severe exposure of slippery surfaces such as icy and muddy conditions at job sites and plants. Ladders, steps on trucks, and pump platforms are also in this group.

• The concrete pump operator has severe exposure to moving objects such as other vehicles on highway, pump arms, all job site machinery such as earthmoving equipment, cranes, loaders, and other equipment.

• The concrete pump operator is responsible for personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, work shoes, and gloves.

• The concrete pump operator is subject to a high amount of high elevation. This occurs climbing in/out of trucks, climbing up/down ladders, and while on concrete pump platform.

• The concrete pump operator is subject to a moderate amount of inhalation. This is caused from truck exhaust, dust from cement on job sites, and other airborne dust.


Pay:Ā $36.75 to $46.15 per hour
