Des Moines, IA
Weekday pulmonary and critical care practice for Veterans – clinic, bronchoscopy and ICU consults, with phone-first call.
The Community
Greater Des Moines is one of the Midwest's most livable metros: short commutes, a walkable downtown and East Village, the Pappajohn Sculpture Park, an extensive regional trail network and the Iowa State Fair every August. The cost of living runs roughly 13–15% below the national average, so physician income goes a long way, and Iowa ranks among the top states in the country to practice medicine. Minneapolis, Omaha and Kansas City are all within a few hours' drive, and Chicago is an easy nonstop flight.
Getting Here
Des Moines International Airport (DSM) – approximately 5 miles / 15 minutes, with nonstop service to major hubs including Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, Dallas and Atlanta. Omaha (OMA) – approximately 135 miles / 2.5 hours. Minneapolis–St. Paul (MSP) – approximately 245 miles / 3.5 hours.
The Facility
The Des Moines VA Medical Center is the main campus of VA Central Iowa Health Care System, serving more than 32,000 Veterans across central Iowa. It is a teaching facility affiliated with the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and Des Moines University, with an on-site intensive care unit, surgical services, pulmonary function and sleep testing, and a dedicated pulmonary nursing team.
