Job Summary

The Prosthetist will be responsible for evaluating, designing, fitting, and maintaining prosthetic devices for individuals with limb loss or limb differences. The successful candidate will work closely with patients, physicians, physical therapists, occupational health professionals, and other healthcare providers to develop individualized prosthetic treatment plans that improve mobility, comfort, independence, and quality of life.

This position requires strong clinical assessment skills, technical knowledge of prosthetic devices, excellent communication abilities, and a patient-centered approach to care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations to assess physical condition, functional abilities, mobility needs, and prosthetic requirements.

  • Design, recommend, fit, and adjust customized prosthetic devices based on individual patient needs.

  • Take accurate measurements, impressions, and digital scans for the fabrication of prosthetic devices.

  • Develop individualized prosthetic treatment plans in collaboration with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Educate patients and their families on the proper use, care, maintenance, and safety of prosthetic devices.

  • Monitor patient progress and perform follow-up evaluations to assess comfort, fit, mobility, and functionality.

  • Make necessary modifications, adjustments, and repairs to prosthetic devices.

  • Assist patients in adapting to prosthetic devices and achieving their mobility and rehabilitation goals.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, treatment plans, fitting documentation, and follow-up notes.

  • Follow applicable healthcare regulations, safety standards, infection-control procedures, and professional ethical guidelines.

  • Stay current with advances in prosthetic technology, materials, fabrication techniques, and rehabilitation practices.

  • Collaborate with occupational health and safety teams to support employees returning to work following injuries or rehabilitation.

  • Provide guidance regarding workplace accommodations and safe use of prosthetic devices in industrial or agricultural environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Certification as a Prosthetist through the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC) or equivalent certification.

  • Current state licensure, where required.

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of professional experience as a Prosthetist or in a related prosthetic rehabilitation setting.

  • Strong knowledge of prosthetic assessment, design, fabrication, fitting, and adjustment.

  • Familiarity with upper-extremity and lower-extremity prosthetic devices.

  • Understanding of human anatomy, biomechanics, gait analysis, and rehabilitation principles.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient counseling skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Proficiency in maintaining clinical records and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in occupational health, rehabilitation, industrial healthcare, or employee wellness environments.

  • Familiarity with modern prosthetic technologies, including computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and digital scanning.

  • Experience supporting individuals returning to physically demanding occupations.

  • Knowledge of workplace ergonomics and safety practices is a plus.

Working Conditions

The Prosthetist will primarily work in a clinical or occupational health setting located at [Company Headquarters or Production Facility]. The position may occasionally require visits to agricultural or production facilities to assess workplace accommodations and employee needs.
