Job Description: Project /Program Manager (Data Engineering) Role summary • Location: Offshore delivery center, India • Shift: 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST, to support US-based clients • Experience: 8 to 10 years in IT, with at least 4 years as a Project or Program Manager on data engineering projects • About the role We are looking for a Project Manager to lead a distributed onshore/offshore team delivering data engineering and modernization work for a US enterprise client. You will be the main point of contact for the client's leads, run day-to-day delivery and governance, and manage the people side of the team: onboarding, training, performance and continuity. You'll also look for places where the client needs more support. This is a management role; hands-on technical skills are not required. Key responsibilities Project delivery and tracking • Keep one integrated project plan and backlog view across all workstreams • Run daily stand-ups and backlog reviews to track progress, blockers, risks and issues • Monitor sprint commitments and agree recovery plans when delivery slips • Manage scope, dependencies and change requests with client stakeholders Client collaboration and governance • Act as the day-to-day point of contact for client leads and managers • Prepare and present weekly status reports and monthly governance reviews • Keep risk, issue and decision logs, and escalate early to client and internal leadership • Track and report delivery KPIs agreed with the client People management • Lead, motivate and support a team of 25 or more people across locations • Set clear goals, give regular feedback and run performance reviews • Spot skill and performance gaps early, and resolve them through coaching, training or a replacement • Handle team concerns, conflicts and morale, and keep engagement and retention high • Plan backups for critical roles and arrange timely backfills when people leave Onboarding and training • Run onboarding for new joiners: access, tools, process orientation and buddy assignment • Plan, schedule and track domain and technical training for every team member • Keep training records and certification status, and confirm readiness before assignment • Organize knowledge-sharing and refresher sessions, and keep project documentation current Resource and operations management • Manage resource planning, allocation, timesheets and billing accuracy • Coordinate hiring needs with recruitment and approve candidate fit for the project • Make sure compliance, security and access processes are followed Account growth • Find areas where the client needs more support, and bring in the right internal expertise • Help leadership turn identified gaps into new scope proposals Required qualifications • 8 to 10 years in IT, including at least 4 years managing data engineering, data migration, data modernization or ETL implementation projects • Understands the data project lifecycle well enough to plan, track and question estimates. Hands-on technical or BI tool skills are not required. • Proven people management experience with distributed onshore/offshore teams • At least 3 years working directly with US-based clients • Strong command of Agile/Scrum delivery and project tracking tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps • Excellent written and spoken English; comfortable running executive reviews and difficult conversations Key skills Client management, stakeholder communication, people leadership, performance management, training coordination, risk and issue management, resource planning, Agile delivery, status reporting.
