Foth is seeking aGeotechnical Engineer to support a variety of environmentally related projects. This role requires strong technical expertise in geotechnical engineering, focusing on the design and analysis ofearth structures, marine foundations, and heavy-lift foundation support. The candidate will assess soil and rock conditions to ensure stable foundations and safe infrastructure, addressing environmental aspects and collaborating with multi-discipline teams. This role is open to hybrid or in-office work in ourDuluth or Minneapolis, MNoffices. Up to15% travel is possible with this role.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership: Lead project design through technical reports, geotechnical calculations, analysis, and modeling; demonstrate initiative as a self-starter who is motivated to take on design elements and work through new technical challenges independently
- Earth Structures & Foundations: Provide design, construction observation, and general geotechnical characterization support. Perform geotechnical analysis, design calculations, and ensure soil stability for heavy civil, upland, and in-water environmental remediation projects
- Marine Structural Foundations: Support pile driving analysis, dynamic pile testing, CAPWAP. Collaborate with structural engineers to create complementary foundation designs
- Heavy-Lift Foundations: Perform geotechnical analyses for heavy-lift and temporary works foundations, including settlement estimates, bearing capacity evaluations, ground improvement needs, and soil-structure/geostructural interaction considerations; evaluate soil and rock properties and support practical design recommendations that account for site constraints and environmental considerations
- General Geotechnical: Collect data, analyze slope stability, manage groundwater, and assess geotechnical risks. Additionally, prepare boring logs, laboratory data summaries, and maintain general knowledge of geotechnical modeling software
- Geological Engineering: Interprete engineering properties within various geologic environments that compact. Prepare natural hazard related designs for specific geotechnical risks
- Field Work & Construction Support: Prepare design calculations, develop field sampling plans, coordinate field work, provide construction observations, and perform site visits to analyze data
- Permit Preparation: Prepare permit documents for mine site development, dam safety, closure, reclamation, and financial assurance
- Proposal, Budgets, and Work Plans: Support proposal development, including project budget and schedule, and work plans
