Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Power Electronics and Systems Engineer to join our Artificial Lift Solutions engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Low Voltage power systems, motor control design, variable speed drives, energy storage systems, and automation of power systems. This role involves designing, integrating, testing and supporting power and control systems for various surface-based drive packages. This role will work closely with internal engineering teams, manufacturing, vendors, field personnel, and end users to deliver safe, reliable, standards-compliant systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Power Electronics and Systems Design:
  • Perform load calculations, component sizing, wiring design, and electrical architecture development for motor-driven systems.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and bills of materials for power and control systems.
  • Design, specify, apply, and troubleshoot motor control systems including Variable Frequency Drive packages, starters, contactors, overloads, braking circuits, and safety interlocks.
  • Support selection, sizing, specification, and application of motor driven systems.
  • Evaluate motor torque-speed performance, thermal limits, duty cycle, enclosure requirements, feedback devices, and mechanical integration constraints.
  • Work with suppliers and internal teams to support motor design reviews, test plans, prototype evaluations, and product qualifications.
  • Design and support energy storage systems, discharge circuits, protection devices, and regenerative power management concepts.
  • Support safety, serviceability, and documentation requirements for high-energy capacitor systems.
Compliance and Product Support
  • Work safely on or around Low voltage (< 690 V AC) three-phase equipment in accordance with company electrical safety practices and applicable regulations.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical, industrial control panel, hazardous area, and customer requirements.
  • Prepare design documentation, calculations, test reports, compliance records, technical instructions, and engineering change documentation.
  • Support product improvements, cost reduction, reliability initiatives, and standardization of electrical design practices.
Project Management:
  • Manage engineering development projects from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals.
Interpersonal Collaboration:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical personnel.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and end users to diagnose and resolve technical issues under field conditions.
  • Provide on-site support to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Essentials: Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing, commissioning, or supporting industrial electrical power systems, motor controls, Variable Frequency Drives, and automation hardware in an industrial setting.
Technical Skills:
  • Working knowledge of LV (up to 690 V AC) motor controls, VFD/VSD systems, PLC-based automation, instrumentation, wiring design, and industrial control panels.
  • Hands-on experience with permanent magnet motors, induction motors, motor feedback devices, capacitors, DC bus systems, regenerative energy systems, and power electronics.
  • Familiarity with UL 508A, NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEC/industrial electrical standards, and various IEEE standards.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming, using structured text, ladder logic/ HMI programming and SCADA systems
Electrical Licensing / Safety Qualification
  • Qualified and authorized to work on 480VAC three-phase industrial electrical equipment, with demonstrated understanding of electrical safe work practices, lockout/tagout, arc flash hazards, and energized-work controls.
Troubleshooting Abilities:
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve power, drive, motor, control, sensor, communication, and field reliability issues under lab and field conditions.
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Skilled at building relationships and working effectively in team environments.
Project Management:
  • Demonstrated ability to manage engineering projects effectively, meeting deadlines and budget constraints.

Desirable: Certifications:
  • PE / FE licensing
​Industry Experience:
  • Familiarity with oil and gas industry standards and practices especially in the Artificial Lift field.
