Project Engineer / Senior Project Engineer – Heavy Civil Construction

Position Overview

Cornerstone Recruiting is seeking aProject Engineer / Senior Project Engineer for an established and growing specialty construction contractor in the Malvern, PA area.

This is a highly visible role that works closely with both field operations and project management. The Project Engineer will serve as an important link between the field and office, helping coordinate project resources, equipment, materials, procurement, scheduling, inventory, and project documentation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional who is highly organized, proactive, and interested in developing a broad understanding of project management and field operations. Candidates with experience inheavy civil construction, site development, hardscape, earthwork, utilities, concrete, or related construction disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply.

The level of the position—Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer—will be based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between field operations, project management, and office personnel.

  • Spend time on active construction projects to understand field conditions, project needs, and upcoming resource requirements.

  • Assist with weekly Client, equipment, and resource scheduling.

  • Coordinate logistics for company drivers, equipment, and construction materials.

  • Work closely with field leadership to develop and maintain equipment movement schedules.

  • Prepare and maintain weekly equipment location and utilization reports.

  • Assist Project Managers with material procurement, subcontractor coordination, and pricing.

  • Prepare and process material submittals and required project documentation.

  • Coordinate safety-related paperwork and submissions in support of Project Managers and field operations.

  • Manage and track internal construction material and equipment inventory.

  • Properly allocate and code material costs to individual projects.

  • Review project plans and specifications to assist with material procurement and subcontractor buyout.

  • Work with the preconstruction and estimating teams to review project budgets and verify that material and subcontractor costs reflect current market conditions.

  • Participate in regular operations and resource-planning meetings.

  • Help identify scheduling, material, equipment, or logistical issues before they impact field production.

  • Maintain a high level of organization and communication across multiple active construction projects.

  • Support the company's commitment to quality, safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the construction industry is required.

  • Experience withheavy civil, site development, earthwork, underground utilities, hardscape, concrete, or similar construction projects is strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred but not required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Proactive communicator who is comfortable working with Project Managers, Superintendents, field crews, vendors, and subcontractors.

  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, and project documentation.

  • Understanding of construction materials, procurement, scheduling, and cost coding is preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Comfortable splitting time between the office and active construction sites.

  • Ability to anticipate project needs and solve problems before they affect production.

This position is particularly well suited for a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Field Engineer, Project Coordinator, or construction professional who wants broader exposure to scheduling, procurement, equipment management, field operations, and project management.
