Role Overview
The Programs Communications Coordinator strengthens how IDEA captures, organizes, and communicates information about its programs and impact. Serving as a key liaison between Programs and external-facing teams, this role proactively identifies, synthesizes, and maintains accurate and compelling project information, stories, and multimedia; anticipates information gaps and audience needs; and ensures relevant teams have the resources needed to effectively communicate IDEA's work. The ideal candidate combines strong research and organization with curiosity, audience awareness, and an instinct for recognizing the information, stories, and opportunities that can bring IDEA's work to life. The candidate must show commitment to IDEA’s faith-inspired values and principles, as well as the vision and mission of the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary Programs resource for project-related information, maintaining close visibility into implementation, emerging needs, results, funding opportunities, reports, stories, and available content.
- Participate regularly in relevant Programs meetings and maintain coordination with Fund Development, Marketing, Communications, and other stakeholders to anticipate upcoming priorities, questions, and information needs.
- Research, verify, synthesize, and package project information—including impact data, funding needs, price points, FAQs, reports, geographic details, stories, and multimedia—for external-facing organizational needs.
- Proactively identify and disseminate significant project developments, funding opportunities, stories, and updated impact information; anticipate information gaps and work with Programs teams and implementing partners, as appropriate, to obtain additional context, data, geographic detail, visuals, or documentation.
- Identify compelling project results, stories, multimedia, case-study opportunities, and other content that can strengthen how IDEA communicates its programs and impact.
- Synthesize complex project reports, organizational updates, and field information into concise internal briefs and source packages for donor, marketing, communications, and other external-facing uses.
- Coordinate with Marketing and Communications on project-related materials and campaigns, providing and verifying the information, stories, multimedia, and other assets needed for development.
- Review project-related materials for programmatic accuracy and currency, coordinate appropriate Programs validation, and identify outdated or incomplete information requiring updates.
- Develop and maintain a centralized, user-friendly repository of current project information and multimedia, with systems for tracking sources and currency so reliable information and assets can be efficiently identified and reused.
- Identify recurring information needs, gaps, and workflow bottlenecks and recommend improvements to project resources and cross-functional information flow.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in international development, program management, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in international development, program communications, knowledge management, or a related field, with strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong research and synthesis skills, with the ability to navigate complex project reports, data, and media and quickly identify what is accurate, current, and useful.
- Strong judgment and the ability to identify compelling project results, stories, visuals, developments, and opportunities.
- Strong audience awareness, with the ability to anticipate questions and identify information gaps.
- Proactive and curious, with a demonstrated ability to ask strong follow-up question
- Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to connect Program information with the needs of Fund Development, Marketing, and Communications..
- Excellent organization, information management, and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple requests, deadlines, stakeholders, and information sources.
- Experience working with knowledge-management, or digital-asset-management systems preferred.
- Familiarity with humanitarian and development programming required.
