Summary/ Objective
East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan. Reporting to the Program Director, the Program Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Melrose Older Adults program and report to East Side House and the funder, the NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA). The Program Coordinator is responsible for staff supervision, recordkeeping and providing a variety of social, protective and supportive services in a non-medical care setting.  As a member of the Older Adult team, the Program Coordinatorcollaborates with the Directors of Melrose and Borinquen Court Older Adult Centers for planning and provision of services in the older adult centers.Â
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Assist with overseeing program staff through weekly supervision and periodical evaluation of staff and support staff to ensure program enhancements, development, commonalities, and uniqueness in all sites.
- Disseminate updated information to staff and participants regarding changes in the policies and procedures affecting rights and entitlements in a timely manner.
- Coordinate and help develop programs for older adult participants in the areas of social, cultural, educational and recreational activities (at least four group activities a day or twenty-six group activities a month must be planned and carried out in compliance with DFTA mandates).
- Coordinate/Create monthly activities calendar.
- Develop and implement outreach plans to ensure maximum utilization of center.
- Recruit volunteer workers (Maturity Works, BEGIN, AARP, Senior volunteers and others).
- Serve as a liaison with community and neighborhood groups that can assist in the process of advancing senior citizen issues.
- Ensure contract compliance as outlined by program work plans and contracts.
- Prepare and submit all program reports to the Program Director in a timely fashion (i.e. monthly level, box money, payroll sheets and attendance; prepare, submit, and review all required center reports). Â
- Promote older adult participation and involvement in the advisory board, grievance committee, other such committees, and the center.
- Assist in registering new participants in the program.
- Provide case assistance services to seniors (i.e. supportive contact, referrals, benefits and entitlement assistance, immigration assistance, advocacy).
- Direct, coordinate and oversee fundraising activities for older adult programs.
- Coordinate/motivate participation in center activities and congregated lunch.
- Adhere to contractual obligations and compliance updates dictated by multiple government and private funding sources to maintain contract integrity and performance.
- Complete monthly Kitchen Inventory
- Assist with preparation of the DFTA Program and Nutrition assessments/CAP and DOH
- Related tasks as assigned.

Education / Experience
- AA degree and two years of social service experience or four years of direct social service experience preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and assess priorities and actions.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Thorough understanding of DFTA policies and procedures.
- Excellent skills in verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community service/development.

This position is responsible for supervising and managing the performance of all designated employees assigned to the position within the department.

Expected Work Schedule
The work schedule expected for this position is: Monday through Friday and occasional weekends and holidays. Days and hours of work will range within and to cover the shift of operations from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Flexible work schedule is required for Summer Cooling center days/hours, as aligned to the needs of the program/service.   The schedule may be adjusted based on ESH’s operational needs, with notice provided whenever possible.
