Job Summary 

Anovion is North America’s premier developer and manufacturer of synthetic graphite anodeproducts for the lithium-ion battery industry. Our facility in Sanborn, NYis home to our pilot scalemanufacturingoperations, ourworld-class battery materials and prototype cell assemblylaboratory and is home to our Technology team. These combined capabilities are known as theAnovion Center of Excellence (ACE). The ACE capabilities enableAnovion todevelop, test, and evaluateall aspects of anodemanufacturingfrom raw materials throughthe conversion processes,thermal treatments,andfinallythe relationship to battery performance characteristics.   

Weseek aProcessEngineer to join our growingTechnologyteam.This is a hands-on position that will oversee,contribute and support the design and execution of Research Furnace development and implementation.The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Anovion engineering teamsas well as external engineering and construction firms,toimprove the function of existing research furnaces as well asassist in the development of next generation graphitization techniques.The furnace engineerwill develop DOE’s, SOP’s,perform HAZOPanalyses as wellperform reports toshare performance information to the greater teams.  

QUALIFICATIONS  

Education/Experience:  

  • B.S.Degree in Mechanical,Industrial, Materials Engineering, or related science or engineering field  

  • Proficiency working withmachinery,hand and powertools 

  • Proficient with CADsoftware (SOLIDWORKS Preferable)  

  • Experiencedesigning, running, performing data analysis and reporting results forcomplex multivariateexperiments 

  • Experience with anode materials, lithium-ion batteries, and/orhigh temperature furnacespreferred 

  • 5+years experience withmanufacturingpreferred  

  • Experience with Controls, PLCs, electrical systems, power supplies and facilities engineering.

TechnicalSkills.    

Familiar with the scientific process and manufacturing process development methodologies. Understands the importance of the connection between process and performance. Familiar with creating process KPIs.Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems with complex mechanical systems. Understanding of the basic functions of major mechanical components and systems. Ability tooperate or learn tooperate diagnostic and testing equipment, including multimeter, data logger, thermocouples, cameras, etc. a plus. Competent use of maintenance tools and equipment, including power and hand tools. Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent hand/eye coordination. Ability to follow instructions and ask clarifying questions. Experience designing and running experiments, developing detailed reports todemonstrate findings, andmake recommendationsregarding conclusions and next steps. 

Ability totake ownership of technical projects,developing the vision, purpose,goals and milestones, proposingexperiments andidentifying technical value, and ensuring forward progress independently, while proactively asking for guidance, approval and support when needed.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities 

  1. Work independently and with otherACE team members, Anovionengineering teams, andexternal engineering teams to build and testfurnaceimplementations  

  1. Assist with installation, setup, and commissioning offurnaceequipment 

  1. Install equipment, develop equipment maintenance documentation, calibration procedures and perform routine maintenance of equipment andtools 

  1. Develop safe operating parameters fornewly designedsystems 

  1. Assist with lean process development efforts utilizing 5S methodology to improve performanceandefficiency 

  1. Identify suppliers and vendors, evaluate benefits and make recommendations on go-forwardpath 

  1. Manage vendors, suppliers and projectbudgets 

  1. Prepare anddeliver updates, reports and project status updates to company leaders andpertinentparties 

  1. Analyze materials characterization and furnace performance data.  Identify trends and develop conclusions. 

  1. Research high temperature furnace applications used throughout the world and suggest implementation of performanceimprovements 

  1. Ideate,design, and run experiments to test performance of new processvariations 

  1. Assist, as directed,with diagnosing,understanding andidentifyingfurnacefailures,anddevelopingsolutions   

  1. Ensure work area is maintainedin a neat andorderlycondition 

  1. Promptly report all maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate party  

  1. Accurately complete all documents asrequired 

  1. Ensure proper use of equipment andrequiredPPE at alltimes 

  1. Adhere to theAnovion Code of Conduct at alltimes

Working Environment 

While performing the essential responsibilities of this positiontheteam member will work inmultiple areas includingresearch andmanufacturing environments. Theteammember may also be exposed tomoderate background noise, moderate amounts of airborne graphite dust, presence of natural and artificial light, exposure to work temperatures from ambient to controlled, hard surfaces for standing and walking. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may berequired.
