About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Databricks Solutions Architect who designs and builds, not someone who directs others to do it. You will architect and implement lakehouse solutions across Azure and AWS Databricks for several clients at once, many of them private equity backed companies moving on short timelines. A big part of the role is technical judgment: going deep with Databricks teams and pushing back when a recommendation does not fit the client's use case. This role suits a current consultant with around 10 years of experience who is comfortable debating hard with demanding stakeholders and operating without handholding.

Responsibilities

• Design and build lakehouse solutions on Azure and AWS Databricks, from ingestion through consumption
• Write production code in Python, PySpark, and SQL, and prototype solutions hands-on
• Implement medallion architecture, Unity Catalog governance, Delta Lake, and Lakeflow or Delta Live Tables pipelines
• Set up CI/CD and deployment patterns using Databricks Asset Bundles
• Lead technical discovery with clients and translate business use cases into architecture
• Evaluate Databricks recommendations critically and push back when they do not fit the use case
• Scope and estimate work, including fixed-fee engagements, and deliver across several clients at once
• Build reusable patterns and accelerators that speed up future engagements
• Mentor engineers and set technical standards as the practice grows

Required Skills

• Around 10 years of data engineering or data architecture experience
• Several years of hands-on Databricks experience across multiple clients or platforms
• Experience with both Azure Databricks and AWS Databricks
• Databricks professional certification, such as Data Engineer Professional or Machine Learning Professional
• Strong Python, PySpark, and SQL skills
• Deep knowledge of Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, medallion architecture, and Lakeflow or Delta Live Tables
• Current consulting experience, including utilization targets, multiple concurrent clients, and scoping under pressure
• Confident, clear communicator who can hold a technical position with demanding stakeholders

Bonus / Soft Skills

• GenAI and agent experience on Databricks, such as Mosaic AI or Agent Bricks
• Experience using Claude or other AI tools in day-to-day engineering
• Work with private equity backed companies
• Infrastructure as code experience, such as Terraform
• Databricks Champion status
• Financial services or insurance exposure
• Technology-agnostic, use-case-first mindset
• Thick skin and comfort with fast, direct debate
