Principal Mobile Engineer - iOS and Connected Devices

Fieldpiece is looking for an experienced, hands-onPrincipal Mobile Engineer to help shape the future of our connected products. As our first in-house mobile engineering hire, you'll take technical ownership of our mobile applications, drive architectural decisions, and develop innovative solutions connecting physical tools, mobile technology, and cloud services.

This isn't a role where you'll just oversee development. You'll write code, solve complex engineering challenges, and help establish the technical foundation for our growing mobile engineering capabilities.

You'll collaborate with established external development partners and internal engineering teams across embedded systems, cloud, product, and UX. Location: Park City, UT (moving to Heber City in 2027).  Hybrid, typically 3 days onsite per week. Additional onsite days may be required for collaboration or business needs. Up to 10% travel.

What You'll Do

• Own the architecture and technical direction of our native iOS applications, with involvement in Android development.

• Design, develop, and optimize mobile applications that connect with Bluetooth/BLE-enabled tools, sensors, and cloud services.

• Write production-quality code and solve complex challenges involving connectivity, performance, reliability, and scalability.

• Establish in-house mobile engineering capabilities, including development standards, architecture, testing, and best practices.

• Collaborate with external development partners, providing technical guidance, conducting code reviews, and ensuring high-quality engineering outcomes.

• Partner with embedded, cloud, product, and UX teams to deliver seamless connected-product experiences.

• Make key technical decisions balancing performance, security, maintainability, and speed.

• Leverage modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development tools, to improve productivity, testing, and code quality.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience, including extensive hands-on native iOS application development
• Strong expertise in Swift and native iOS development, with experience building and supporting complex, production-grade applications
• Experience architecting mobile applications and making significant technical design decisions
• Experience developing mobile applications that communicate with Bluetooth/BLE devices, sensors, IoT, or connected hardware
• Strong understanding of mobile architecture, APIs, cloud integration, performance, security, and testing
• Experience providing technical leadership, influencing engineering decisions, and collaborating across teams while remaining hands-on
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Even Better If You Have

• Native Android development experience with Kotlin or Java
• Experience with AWS, cloud-connected applications, or distributed systems
• Experience with mobile CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and release management
• Experience using AI-assisted or agentic development tools
• Experience with professional tools, connected consumer products, industrial IoT, or field-service technology

The base annual salary range for this role is currently$150,000 to 195,000 plus bonus.  Pay scales are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
