The Opportunity:
The Voice and Speech Informatics (VSI) Lab in The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Central Florida is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with a strong engineering and computational background. This position is located at the UCF Main campus in Orlando, Florida, with an anticipated start date April 2027.
The postdoctoral scholar will work primarily on the development and application of computational methods for the analysis of high-speed laryngeal videoendoscopy recordings, with additional opportunities to contribute to projects involving acoustic, physiological, and wearable-sensor data. Research activities will involve computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, and multimodal data analysis. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering, clinical science, and AI, contributing to NIH-funded research on vocal fold physiology and laryngeal imaging. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment with opportunities to develop novel computational methods, publish in leading journals, mentor student researchers, and contribute to ongoing NIH-funded projects.
The Voice and Speech Informatics (VSI) Lab develops computational methods that combine machine learning, computer vision, signal processing, and multimodal data analysis to study voice production, vocal physiology, and vocal health. We analyze laryngeal imaging, aerodynamic, electroglottographic, acoustic, physiological, and ambulatory monitoring data to address fundamental and translational questions related to voice function and disorders. The lab conducts NIH-funded research and collaborates closely with investigators across the Communication Technologies Research Collaborative (CTRC), providing access to diverse datasets, advanced instrumentation, and high-performance computing resources. The VSI lab and CTRC offer a highly interdisciplinary research environment at the intersection of engineering, artificial intelligence, and clinical science.
Â
Responsibilities:
- Develop and evaluate computer vision, machine learning, and deep learning approaches for the analysis of laryngeal images and related biomedical data.
- Analyze and integrate multimodal datasets, including laryngeal imaging, acoustic, aerodynamic, electroglottographic, physiological, and ambulatory monitoring data.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present research findings at scientific conferences.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers within the lab.
- Contribute to collaborative research activities, including the development of grant proposals and new research initiatives.
Â
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB
