Manager, Strategic Business Analysis
CarMax Auto Finance, Kennesaw, GA
About This Job
The Manager, Strategic Business Analysis is responsible for creating the integrated set of business requirements that Technology uses to design, build, and implement solutions for CAF's most complex, cross-functional business and technology programs. These programs may span multiple products, business functions, systems, data sources, Technology platforms, vendors, or control environments and carry significant operational, financial, regulatory, or customer impact.
To produce requirements that are complete, technically informed, and aligned across the business, the Manager builds and applies an integrated analysis strategy — independently evaluating connections among processes, systems, data, integrations, controls, and the experiences of internal and external customers. The Manager partners closely with Technology on system and design considerations and with Compliance, Risk, and Legal on programs with regulatory or compliance exposure, ensuring business requirements reflect current regulatory expectations (e.g., Reg B, Reg E, ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP).
What You Will Do — Essential Responsibilities
- Translate business needs into clear, technically informed requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria that Technology can design, build, and implement against.
- Own business and systems analysis for CAF's most complex, ambiguous, high-risk, or cross-enterprise programs, from discovery through post-launch confirmation that the delivered solution meets business requirements — distinct from delivery execution, which remains with Technology — and are accountable for resolving gaps that affect adoption or sustainment.
- Partner with Operations to design lean, practical solutions — evaluating process, operational, and system tradeoffs to recommend the simplest effective path to the desired business outcome.
- Partner with Technology, Architecture, and Engineering to understand relevant system, data, and integration considerations, and evaluate solution options and their business and operational impacts.
- Partner with Compliance, Risk, and Legal on programs with regulatory or compliance exposure (e.g., Reg B, Reg E, ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP), ensuring business requirements and testing evidence reflect current regulatory and control expectations.
- Own the business-level validation and UAT approach and outcome for assigned programs — confirming delivered solutions meet approved requirements and business needs — distinct from program status and risk reporting, which remains with the Delivery Manager.
- Coach Senior Business Systems Analysts on requirements quality, lean solutioning, technical fluency, and stakeholder influence; review critical deliverables and provide guidance on ambiguous or high-risk initiatives.
Purpose of the Role
The Manager, Strategic Business Analysis translates high-level business objectives from Operations into clear, technically informed business requirements that Technology can design, build, and implement — ensuring CAF's most complex solutions are supported by lean, well-validated analysis. This role connects business needs, operational realities, and technical feasibility so leaders and delivery teams can make informed decisions and implement sustainable solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong business-analysis expertise with strong technical aptitude and sound judgment. They are comfortable creating structure in ambiguous environments, designing lean solutions in partnership with Operations, and developing the capabilities of other analysts.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in information systems, operations, logistics, process engineering, industrial engineering, finance, analytics, or a related field; candidates with operations, logistics, or process-engineering backgrounds are a strong fit. An advanced degree (MBA, MS in Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field) is preferred. A technical degree is not required.
- 5-7+ years of progressive experience in business analysis, systems analysis, technology delivery, operations transformation, quality assurance, or a related discipline.
- Strong technical inclination and fluency — able to understand systems, data flows, and integration concepts well enough to translate business needs into requirements that are clear and technically informed enough to hand off to Technology for design and build.
- Working fluency with the tools used to communicate requirements and designs to Technology, including Azure DevOps (ADO) Boards for tracking work items and requirements, Miro for collaborative diagramming and process mapping, and GitHub for version control and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate integrated solution options and communicate business and technical tradeoffs to senior stakeholders.
- Experience establishing UAT and business-level validation approaches, confirming that delivered solutions meet business needs and approved requirements.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical judgment, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
- Consumer finance, auto finance, or other regulated financial-services experience, and working knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., Reg B, Reg E, ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP), preferred but not required.
