Summary
At Apple, we believe our products begin with our people. By hiring a team with dynamic strengths, we drive creative thought. By giving that team everything they need, we drive innovation. By hiring incredible engineers, we drive precision. And through our process, we build memorable experiences for our customers. These elements come together to make Apple an amazing environment for motivated people to do the greatest work of their lives. You will become part of a hands-on development team that cultivates perfection, creativity and innovation. Will you help us design the next generation of revolutionary Apple products?
Description
Our Platform Engineering team makes sure Apple silicon works long before it exists as a chip. We build and run the environments โ RTL simulation, emulation, and FPGA prototyping โ that let hardware and software teams bring up and validate complex SoCs pre-silicon.
As an intern or working student on the team, you'll work on real problems the team is facing on upcoming products, across a broad range of topics โ and you'll own your piece of it end-to-end.
As an intern in the Platform Engineering team, you will work on real challenges the team faces on upcoming products, supporting validation of various functional sub-systems and blocks in the pre-silicon domain. To be successful in this position, you have a strong technical foundation, are able to show initiative, learn new technologies quickly, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You are motivated and prepared to work independently. With mentorship, you will partner with your colleagues to ensure complex systems (ASICs) can be successfully verified.
Responsibilities
- You'll be working on silicon that hasn't been built yet. Depending on your interests and where the team needs you most, that could include:
- Bringing chips to life before they exist.
- Stand up and debug the pre-silicon environments where sub-systems of future Apple SoCs boot and run for the very first time โ and help figure out what's happening when they don't.
- Making the whole team faster.* Build tooling and automation in Python or C/C++ that turns slow, manual validation into something fast, repeatable, and trustworthy for every engineer who depends on it.
- Building the hardware that tests the hardware.* Contribute to the FPGA-based platforms and equipment control that let us verify systems of enormous complexity long before the first chip arrives.
- You'll have a mentor, real ownership of your work, and the chance to present your results to a globally distributed team. Not every intern touches every area โ and you don't need prior experience in all of them.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++
- Solid grasp of digital design and computer architecture fundamentals
- A track record of picking up unfamiliar technology quickly and working independently once pointed at a problem
- English language fluency
Preferred Qualifications
- General knowledge of SoC and microcontroller/DSP architecture and industry-standard interfaces
- Exposure to any pre-silicon verification environment: RTL simulation, emulation, or FPGA prototyping
- Knowledge of logic design, HDL/Verilog, logic simulation, and HW/SW interaction
- Familiarity with FPGA tool flows โ synthesis, partitioning, place & route โ ideally Vivado
- Eagerness to take on unfamiliar challenges and work across time zones on multi-functional projects
