The Plant Manager III – Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is responsible for leading day-to-day plant operations while ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, and operational excellence. This role requires a hands-on leader who can drive performance, optimize processes, reduce costs, and build a high-performing team in a fast-paced environment.
This position plays a critical role in advancing sustainability initiatives and delivering efficient recycling and waste management operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the MRF including gatehouse, sorting, and loading
- Ensure systems operate at peak efficiency and productivity
- Minimize operational costs and improve process flow
- Reduce turnaround time for trucks entering and exiting the facility
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead structured problem-solving to eliminate waste and downtime
- Oversee contractual obligations and customer relationships
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards
- Develop and manage budgets; analyze financial performance vs targets
- Maintain facility cleanliness, maintenance programs, and inspections
- Lead workforce planning including hiring, coaching, training, and performance management
- Conduct safety meetings and promote a strong safety culture
- Prepare and submit operational reports in a timely manner
- Directly manage4–5 supervisory staff
- Indirectly oversee40–45 employees
- Build, coach, and develop high-performing teams
- Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement
- Motivate teams in high-pressure operational environments
- Bachelor's Degree (or High School Diploma/GED with additional relevant experience)
- Minimum7+ years of relevant experience in plant operations or manufacturing
- Strong experience in operations leadership within industrial or recycling environments
- Proven ability to manage teams, operations, and performance metrics
- Strong leadership presence with ability to influence and inspire teams
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure
- Data-driven mindset with strong analytical capabilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of accountability, ownership, and integrity
- Experience managing supervisors and frontline teams in a plant environment
- Background in recycling, waste management, or material recovery facilities
- Experience driving continuous improvement and operational transformation
- Strong understanding of safety and environmental compliance standards

- Fast-paced, high-volume industrial environment
- Requires strong on-floor leadership and operational presence
