NEKTAR THERAPEUTICS
Senior Director, Marketing
San Francisco, CA (Remote) · Reports to: Vice President, Commercial Strategy & Marketing
Position Overview
Nektar has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Director, Marketing to help build the commercial foundation for rezpegaldesleukin (REZPEG), our first-in-class regulatory T-cell (Treg) therapy in development for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis and severe alopecia areata.
Reporting to the Vice President, Commercial Strategy & Marketing, this individual will advance brand fundamentals — segmentation, positioning, messaging, campaign and the pre-launch narrative — and lead alopecia areata launch strategy ahead of a U.S. launch. The successful candidate will operate with a high degree of autonomy in a small, fast-moving commercial organization, translating clinical and scientific evidence into credible, defensible commercial strategy well in advance of approval.
Candidates must possess exceptional strategic thinking and written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work cross-functionally with partners, including Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Market Access and Regulatory, and the comfort to operate with ambiguity in a pre-launch environment. This is a highly visible position internally and with external thought leaders and agency partners.
Specific Responsibilities
• Advance brand fundamentals for REZPEG, including patient segmentation, brand positioning, the master brand narrative, and per-segment messaging.
• Lead alopecia areata launch strategy and commercialization planning.
• Translate Phase 2b and Phase 3 clinical evidence into scientifically grounded, commercially credible messaging
• Design and lead the pre-launch market research agenda in partnership with Business Insights, including segmentation refresh, HCP ATU baseline, patient journey and positioning testing.
• Build the competitive frame and monitor emerging entrants to keep brand strategy and forecast assumptions honest.
• Partner with Medical Affairs and other functions on advisory boards, congress presence and scientific platform development, maintaining clear promotional/non-promotional boundaries.
• Manage agency and vendor relationships and the associated marketing budget, with accountability for scope, quality and spend.
• Contribute to launch readiness planning, cross-functional governance and executive-level materials for senior leadership review.
• Work on assignments that are complex in nature and require considerable judgment, initiative and specialized knowledge to develop recommended solutions.
Minimum Requirements
• BA/BS degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
• A minimum of 10 years of biopharmaceutical commercial experience, including at least 5 years in brand or product marketing roles of increasing responsibility.
• Demonstrated experience in pre-launch and launch marketing fora specialty advanced treatment; immunology, dermatology or immuno-dermatology experience strongly preferred.
• Proven track record building brand strategy from foundational inputs — segmentation, positioning, messaging and naming — rather than executing an inherited plan.
• Strong clinical and scientific fluency, with the ability to engage credibly with KOLs, Medical Affairs and clinical development teams.
• Experience designing and applying primary market research and secondary data (claims, chart and patient-level data) to commercial decisions.
• Working knowledge of U.S. promotional review (MLR), FDA promotional regulation and compliance requirements in a pre-approval environment.
• Experience managing agencies, vendors and marketing budgets.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to travel up to 25% as required for congresses, advisory boards and internal meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
• Direct experience in atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata or adjacent immune-mediated disease categories.
• Experience commercializing a first-in-class mechanism or establishing a new treatment category.
• Experience at a small- or mid-cap biotech building commercial capability ahead of a first launch.
• Global or multi-region marketing experience.
• People management experience or demonstrated readiness to build and lead a team as the commercial organization grows.
