About this roleÂ
We are seeking an experienced tax professional to lead the company’s U.S. federal corporate income tax compliance function. This role, located in Budapest, will have primary responsibility for the accurate and timely completion of federal income tax filings and related compliance processes and will support the broader tax team on tax accounting, planning, tax controversy, and other federal tax matters.
The successful candidate will bring strong U.S. corporate income tax technical expertise, excellent project management skills, and a continuous improvement mindset. This individual will work closely with colleagues across Tax, Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, and other functions, as well as external tax advisors.
Key Responsibilities
Federal Income Tax Compliance
- Lead and oversee the preparation and review of the company’s U.S. federal corporate income tax returns, including Form 1120 and related forms, schedules, elections, and disclosures.
- Manage the annual federal income tax compliance calendar to ensure all filing, payment, and documentation requirements are completed accurately and on time.
- Oversee the preparation and review of federal taxable income calculations, book-to-tax adjustments, tax attributes, and supporting workpapers.
- Manage federal estimated tax payments, extensions, and related cash tax calculations.
- Review and maintain appropriate documentation supporting significant federal tax positions and elections.
- Coordinate the federal tax return process with internal teams and external tax advisors.
- Ensure appropriate integration between federal compliance and other areas of the tax function, including state, international, and transfer pricing.
- Develop and maintain accurate forecasts of U.S. federal cash tax payments, proactively identifying and communicating changes, risks, and opportunities to Tax leadership and Treasury.
Tax Accounting and Planning/Controversy Support
- Lead the ASC 740 income tax provision process, including federal current and deferred tax calculations and return-to-provision adjustments.
- Review and assess uncertain tax positions, including the adequacy of supporting technical analysis and documentation, and support the appropriate recognition and measurement of such positions
- Perform ETR analyses and manage the ETR forecasting process, including identifying, analyzing, and communicating key drivers of actual and forecasted ETR to Tax and Finance leadership.
- Support tax planning initiatives through federal tax research, analysis, modeling, and implementation.
- Assist in evaluating the federal tax implications of business transactions, restructurings, acquisitions, dispositions, and other strategic initiatives.
- Support federal tax examinations and controversy matters, including preparation of responses to IRS inquiries and Information Document Requests.
- Provide calculations, documentation, and technical analysis in support of matters under examination.
- Assist in maintaining documentation related to federal tax positions and applicable statutes of limitation.
- Support tax leadership, internal and external counsel, and external tax advisors in connection with federal tax controversy matters.
Process Improvement and Controls
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve, standardize, and automate federal tax compliance processes.
- Enhance the use of tax technology and data analytics to improve accuracy, efficiency, and controls.
- Maintain strong process documentation and SOX controls related to federal income tax compliance.
- Partner with Finance and technology teams to improve the quality and accessibility of tax data.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Serve as a key U.S. federal income tax compliance resource to the broader Tax organization and other business functions.
- Manage the relationship with the company’s external auditor on U.S. federal income tax matters, coordinating requests, addressing tax-related audit questions, and ensuring timely resolution of issues.
- Manage and develop team members, as applicable, promoting appropriate delegation, accountability, and professional development.
- Coordinate external advisors supporting the federal compliance process and manage related deliverables.
- Communicate complex tax matters clearly and effectively to tax and non-tax stakeholders.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field; advanced degree in taxation preferred.
- Progressive experience in U.S. federal corporate income taxation, preferably involving large and/or multinational corporations.
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal corporate income tax law and consolidated corporate income tax returns.
- Significant experience managing complex federal income tax compliance processes.
- Deep knowledge of ASC 740 and the interaction between tax compliance and the income tax provision.
- Experience supporting tax planning initiatives and IRS examinations.
- Experience with tax compliance technology and large ERP/data environments.
- Strong analytical, project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a complex environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and with external advisors.
