Matrix designs, manufactures, and sells innovative technological products that help keep people safe. Originally focused on the underground coal mining industry, Matrix has expanded into new industrial markets in the United States and globally.
We are currently seeking a Product Development Intern to support the development of innovative technologies and equipment for the mining industry. This internship will provide hands-on experience working alongside engineering and product development teams throughout the product lifecycle, including concept development, prototyping, testing, validation, documentation, and product improvement initiatives. The intern will gain practical exposure to engineering processes, technical problem-solving, and product commercialization while contributing to real-world projects that enhance safety, efficiency, and performance in mining operations. This is a paid position that works in a team environment at our home office in Newburgh, IN. This is not a remote position.
This position reports to the Product Manager β Mining.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the development, testing, and evaluation of new products and technologies.
- Support prototype assembly, setup, and troubleshooting activities.
- Collect, organize, and analyze product test data to support engineering decisions.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, test records, and project files.
- Assist with product validation and verification efforts to ensure performance and quality requirements are met.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and summaries of test results.
- Collaborate with engineering, product management, and other cross-functional teams on development projects.
- Participate in product improvement and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support research activities related to emerging technologies, industry trends, and customer needs.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Technology, or a related technical field.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to organize technical information and maintain detailed documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Working Conditions
- Combination of office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.
- May require standing, walking, and handling product components or testing equipment.
- Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Must comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
