As anOrgan Preservationist, you will perform aseptic organ preservation and kidney perfusion, support operating room preparation, maintain preservation supplies and equipment, and build strong relationships with hospital OR teams through education and collaboration. You will help ensure every recovery is handled safely, accurately, and in accordance with applicable policies, regulatory standards, and manufacturer guidelines. This position reports to the Manager of Surgical Services.

Responsibilities:
- Perform aseptic organ preservation, including flushing abdominal organs with the appropriate solution and packaging and labeling organs, vessels, and tissue-typing materials in accordance with OPTN policy.
- Assist hospital staff with operating room preparation for organ recovery procedures.
- Perform aseptic kidney pumping and pulsatile perfusion following kidney separation by a surgeon.
- Support aseptic surgical recovery of organs and tissues for research.
- Obtain biopsy specimens, prepare frozen slides, and submit materials for pathologist review.
- Maintain preservation supplies, solutions, laboratory readiness, and mechanical preservation equipment in accordance with organizational policy, regulatory standards, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Develop productive relationships with operating room staff and provide donation-related education through in-services, presentations, and meetings.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program required; Certified Surgical Technologist credential preferred.
- Two or more years of operating room experience with demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique.
- Experience in organ or tissue recovery is strongly desired.
- Organ perfusion and previous on-call experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while demonstrating sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Excellent arm-hand steadiness, manual dexterity, and finger dexterity for precise clinical work.
- Strong computer and data-entry skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet-based systems.
- Professionalism, discretion, and a high degree of confidentiality.
- Certified Transplant Preservationist credential required within 24 months of hire.
Schedule & Work Environment:
This role includes significant on-call responsibility, including the ability to work 24-hour on-call shifts, respond promptly to dispatches, and travel throughout the designated service area. Work is performed in hospital clinical areas. The position requires the ability to lift up to 75 pounds and assist with donor transfers.
