Operations Manager (Middle Mile), Middle Mile, AMXL JP

AMXL Middle Mile is seeking an Area Manager to support daily operations at an AMXL Sort Center in Japan. The role focuses on executing smooth inbound, sorting, and outbound operations while achieving key operational metrics such as safety, quality, throughput, and on-time departures.

The Area Manager will work alongside 3PL operations teams on the floor, communicate with 3PL partners to identify quality gaps, and support corrective actions to ensure compliance with operational standards. The role requires active collaboration with Fulfillment Centers, Delivery Stations, carrier partners, and internal teams to ensure shipments flow through the network efficiently.

Key responsibilities include floor-level execution and supervision, labor and equipment utilization tracking, operational metrics monitoring, and contributing to process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce defects. The role will also support capacity planning activities and help maintain operational stability as the AMXL Middle Mile network continues to expand.

Key job responsibilities
-Monitor and control critical Cost to serve and performance metrics such as fill rates, on time arrivals, and touch points/shipments.
-Collaborate with the ROC, Stations, and EF/VFs to manage the ordering and cancellation of trucks, ensuring optimal resource utilization.
-Lead the activation of new connections as part of the expansion strategy.
-Manage the reactivation and deactivation of additional connections, ensuring seamless integration into the network.
-Ensure the timely arrival of shipments, meeting or exceeding service level agreements (SLAs).
-Implement strategies to minimize delays and optimize transit times across the network.
-Develop and execute capacity planning strategies for both BAU and peak periods.
-Work closely with cross-functional teams to forecast demand, plan for peak periods, and ensure sufficient capacity is available to meet operational needs.
-Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
-Collaborate with stakeholders to drive innovation and optimize the performance of the logistics network.
-Support implementation of Programmatic initiatives, tech adoptions across for cost and efficiency in the network and collaborate with stakeholders on seamless launch of new initiatives across the network.

A day in the life
A day in this role involves monitoring key performance metrics, coordinating with teams on truck scheduling, and ensuring sufficient capacity across lanes. You will work on short term plans on the activation of new connections, manage capacity planning. The role will require you to troubleshoot operational issues. Additionally, you'll strategize and implement new initiatives, optimize for cost and efficiency.

AMXL is a single-threaded organization that owns the end-to-end Customer experience for heavy and bulky products. AMXL consolidates supply chain, tech, FC operations, transportation, delivery stations, and last mile delivery. We also provide special handling services such as Room of Choice delivery, Haul-Away and Installation/Assembly for select items.

Basic qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 1+ years of program or project management experience
- Speak, write, and read fluently in Japanese at a business level or above (N1+)
- Experience analyzing operational data using SQL or Excel to drive decisions
- Experience negotiating or coordinating with external carriers/vendors
